Perfection-New favorite series.
Revisado: 02-01-25
This came up as a possible series in my recommendations. I was looking for something that wasn’t too gory or too smutty, on the lighter side but keeps my attention. Winner! I’m enjoying the main characters and the development of the village. Also enjoy the narrator for the series. Give it a try!

Interesting story, good narrator

This story definitely kept me hooked, after a little bit of a slow start. I appreciated the underlying discussion of faith throughout, very encouraging.

Bittersweet, lovely story
Revisado: 10-27-23
I keep coming back to Maeve Binchy for stories that make me care about the characters, and this one is no different. Beautiful narration! It isn’t rushed, so you might not enjoy as much if you’re in a hurry, otherwise I’d say give it a try. (Note: not all sunshine and roses, bittersweet.)

Intriguing premise, terrible ending
Revisado: 10-10-23
The primary premise is quite intriguing and draws you in. There are a number of different story lines, and some vaguely interesting characters, but the ending is so unsatisfying!

Cute story. I’m most impressed by the thoughtful approach to the Vietnam War, not supporting it but remembering those who served none-the-less.

Historia
“The Heron” is the nickname a big-city accountant has attached to himself in his new home near San Diego, where he’s using the alias to avoid a hit man who may be after him. It seems a former client believes that The Heron has skipped town with several million dollars not his own. Don Winslow’s ensuing, entertaining yarn is by turns twisty, dark, and comical as we observe the delicate dance between the pursuer and the pursued.

Thoroughly enjoyed the unexpected twists and misdirection. I was positive I figured it out more than once, but hadn’t gotten it right (at least until the final part of the story)

Beware the social agenda
Revisado: 08-19-22
If the author had stayed focused on the story rather than her politics, I would have enjoyed this more. It’s her prerogative to address the issues she feels are important, but I choose “cozy” mysteries because I want to suspend the complexities of today for a while. (And I guess it’s MY prerogative not to read more of her work!)

But This is not my favorite story in the series…a couple of the threads in the story line felt “icky” to me. I enjoy coming back to these characters and seeing them evolve.
