Clear message, but too much filler.

The 1 hour chapters could have been 5 to 10 minutes each. Content was thought-provoking and well-structured, though fairly basic.

Some great questions for reflection. I'll refer to my notes for this book if I do a yearly plan, or in reflecting on my direction.

Whether or not you agree with all of the author's assumptions (and I do agree with most of them) these are profoundly important questions. And Ord's cool-headed manner of addressing them is a good model to follow.

some good perspectives and insights. particularly if you're new to this kind of work.
it doesn't go particularly deep. if your procrastination or distractedness is related to executive dysfunction issues or deeper emotional blocks, you might still find something useful in the book, but don't beat yourself up. There are other resources and strategies that are likely to fit you better.

Very useful and highly structured. A good program for the leader putting their soul into their work and wondering if it's worthwhile.

Useful info from a researcher in the field. Understanding and practical solutions without hype.
Self-compassion and strategies rather than beating yourself up.

Lacking a clear message

Lots of specific suggestions rather than a coherent message.
If you're new to self development or want a refresher, you may find this valuable. Personally I found it frustrating and stopped before halfway.

A good book for someone completely new to design thinking, or for someone with some practical experience in design processes looking for inspiration.
If you're familiar with the broad design concepts he discusses, this may feel like a lot of nice stories and business language/motherhood statements.
That was me. I read Papanek as a boy, studied engineering and have worked with social enterprises, but wanted to learn the application of design thinking. This was the wrong book for me – it had a few interesting ideas to offer me, but even the valuable parts were presented without a clear idea of how to put them into practice. I really wanted something more structured and detailed.

As a statistician said, "All models that wrong, some models are useful." Sarno's insights are useful. I think they aren't as universally applicable as he implies, but much more widely applicable than the medical establishment appreciates.
