Historia
Nahri has never believed in magic. Certainly, she has power; on the streets of 18th-century Cairo, she’s a con woman of unsurpassed talent. But she knows better than anyone that the trades she uses to get by - palm readings, zars, and a mysterious gift for healing - are all tricks, both the means to the delightful end of swindling Ottoman nobles and a reliable way to survive. But when Nahri accidentally summons Dara, an equally sly, darkly mysterious djinn warrior, to her side during one of her cons, she’s forced to reconsider her beliefs.

DNF so boring
Revisado: 06-16-24
This book was 3x longer than it should have been. Nothing happened until half way through and then barely anything happened until the end. I was not inspired to finish the series

This story pulled out all the stops on the most horrific things that can happen to a human, it was an engaging story but stressful to listen to

Slow and Steady
Revisado: 10-11-22
The beginning - middle is quite boring, it takes a little too long to set up the story. All of the action comes at the end. I had guessed 2/3 mysteries about half way through. No regrets listening though, it was a fine story after all

Ridge, Sardelle, and their comrades may have rescued Tolemek's sister and freed the dragon, but trouble awaits at home. The king is missing, a secret organization is hunting sorcerers, and the capital is more vulnerable than ever to enemy attack. Worst of all, at least from Ridge's point of view, someone put that jackass Colonel Therrik in charge of the flier battalion.

Homophobic content
Revisado: 09-15-22
Disappointed by the homophobic jokes and bored by the heteronormativity of this series. Lots of jokes about the characters being “disturbed” by the thoughts of the military men being even in close proximity to each other. Gross

Historia
Everyone knows dragons have been extinct for over 1,000 years. Everyone is wrong. At least one dragon remains, and military scientists from the Cofah Empire are experimenting with its blood, using the magical substance to power deadly new weapons that could be used to bring the world to its knees. That's a concern for Zirkander, Cas, and the rest of the Iskandians, but all Tolemek wants is to find his missing sister.

Great story with some problematic themes
Revisado: 08-30-22
I have been enjoying these books but the heteronormativity and depiction of the natives is so cringey. The narration is great though, you can tell she is from New England from her accent.

Don’t torture yourself with this book. It ends abruptly like a dead end, not even like an alluring cliff hanger. Worst I’ve heard in a long time
