Historia
In 1959 Tibet, a Buddhist artifact of immense importance was seemingly lost to history in the turmoil of the Communist takeover. But when National Underwater and Marine Agency Director Dirk Pitt discovers a forgotten plane crash in the Philippine Sea over 60 years later, new clues emerge to its hidden existence. But Pitt and his compatriot Al Giordino have larger worries when they are ordered to recover a failed hypersonic missile from Luzon Strait. Only someone else is after it, too.

Even better
Revisado: 08-09-22
I admit I am a long term Clive Cussler fan. I believe I’ve read all of them starting with the very first one. I was worried with some of the early works by Dirk Cussler, which to me were a bit disappointing in terms of their complexity, plot, details, and characters, but in this one I see there is a lot left for these characters, and there is improvement in the writing. Just had the right mix of details, character expansion, adventure, and all the good stuff that makes us all read these Clive Cussler novels. Another stellar performance by the narrator. Unbelievably, I’m ready for the next in the series.

Captivating problem and characters but…
Revisado: 05-30-22
I downloaded this book not expecting much because it was featured/free. However, the writing was very good, the plot was very intriguing, and the characters attractive. I’d look forward to hearing more about them. My only gripe is that, like most action adventure series, the characters tend to make very stupid decisions. Why try to halt a terror plot in Beijing without engaging more individuals to the cause. I don’t want to spoil it for others, but any reader/listener will quickly question why the protagonists don’t engage teams they already have relationships with to improve their odds for success. Otherwise, the writing has the right level of detail, excellent timing, and it kept me listening.

Historia
The first Plantagenet king inherited a blood-soaked kingdom from the Normans and transformed it into an empire that stretched at its peak from Scotland to Jerusalem. In this epic history, Dan Jones vividly resurrects this fierce and seductive royal dynasty and its mythic world. We meet the captivating Eleanor of Aquitaine, twice queen and the most famous woman in Christendom; her son, Richard the Lionheart, who fought Saladin in the Third Crusade; and King John, a tyrant who was forced to sign Magna Carta, which formed the basis of our own Bill of Rights.

Well done history
Revisado: 07-11-16
I really appreciated this nuanced and balanced history of the Plantagenet dynasty. The knowledge and part it will certainly enhance my enjoyment of my various trips to the United Kingdom and of world history. Well some found the narrators tone irritating, I was quite neutral to it. He nicely differentiated between quotations and the narrative history, but it times it seems that just a bit more variation in his rendering would have made the book for interesting. I think the author did an outstanding job of combining an in Normas amount of information into a lucid and concise and relevant history. I particularly appreciated the epilogue placing things into context.

Wow, I did not see that coming
Revisado: 05-08-16
This book proved devastatingly interesting. I had a hard time getting many things done, getting out of the car in the garage, but fortunately had many miles that I can walk and listen to it at the same time. The story is excellent, and the narration is very good-top notch. My only disappointment: book 2 is not ready yet.

Andrew Smart wants you to sit and do nothing much more often - and he has the science to explain why. At every turn we’re pushed to do more, faster, and more efficiently: That drumbeat resounds throughout our wage-slave society. Multitasking is not only a virtue, it’s a necessity. But Andrew Smart argues that slackers may have the last laugh. The latest neuroscience shows that the “culture of effectiveness” is not only ineffective, it can be harmful to your well-being.

Unfortunate book about idleness is a waste of time
Revisado: 05-21-15
There really is only one central premise to this book, and that is that we should all slow down and provide time for mine to be uncluttered. This is probably pretty much common sense. Unfortunately, the author brings all manner of pseudoscience and weak arguments, inaccurately researched histories, and speculation into poorly constructed pros to explain this inevitable conclusion. Additionally, the narrators voice reminded me of a whining adolescent. I couldn't get all the way through the book. This book about idleness truly was wasted time for me.

Great detail and character development
Revisado: 05-09-14
This was engaging, even addicting from beginning to end. The plot had its share of twists, the author created a fascinating world, and he gets an A+ for character development. I was particularly impressed with how he was able to vividly portray how the protagonist experienced his gift, what it would look like to him--and to the absolutely fascinating men and women he ends up close to. Very skillful with great effect. I am eager to see the next book in a series…which contrary to one of the other viewers, I was not disappointed to find myself expecting. I'm counting on it.

Rehash
Revisado: 08-20-08
This was not at all what I expected. Basically, it is a rehash of old news casts, beginning shortly after 9/11. The insights were pedestrian, and I stopped listening to it after about 35 minutes of hoping it would get better.

Repetative vainglorious windbag
Revisado: 02-14-07
The main point and supporting material as already discovered by the end of the first chapter or two. Much of the material is repeated over and over and over and over... The author has many good points about word choice, but unfortunately often does not follow his own advice. His tone is often so self-aggrandizing that it is embarassing to listen. It is also a shame that much of the effort behind his choice of words is not to improve communication of ideas, but to obscure ideas in pretty wrapping so the (apparently ignorant) public may more easily consume them. I learned from the book, but it took too long, and I felt soiled after listening to it.
