Historia
Renée Ballard and the LAPD’s Open-Unsolved Unit get a hot shot DNA connection between a recently arrested man and a serial rapist and murderer who went quiet twenty years ago. The arrested man is only twenty-four, so the genetic link must be familial: His father was the Pillowcase Rapist, responsible for a five-year reign of terror in the city of angels. But when Ballard and her team move in on their suspect, they encounter a baffling web of secrets and legal hurdles. Meanwhile, Ballard’s badge, gun, and ID are stolen.

Yet another totally unnecessary political diatribe
Revisado: 10-26-24
The main stories are good but the overall book is sullied by yet another political rant adding nothing. Stick to storytelling and leave your personal bias out.

Historia
John Kennedy Toole - who won a posthumous Pulitzer Prize for his best-selling comic masterpiece A Confederacy of Dunces - wrote The Neon Bible for a literary contest at the age of 16. The manuscript languished in a drawer and became the subject of a legal battle among Toole's heirs. It was only in 1989, 35 years after it was written and 20 years after Toole's suicide at 31, that this amazingly accomplished and evocative novel was freed for publication.

Historia
In 1971, Go Ask Alice reinvented the young adult genre with a blistering portrayal of sex, psychosis, and teenage self-destruction. The supposed diary of a middle-class addict, Go Ask Alice terrified adults and cemented LSD's fearsome reputation, fueling support for the War on Drugs. Five million copies later, Go Ask Alice remains a divisive bestseller, outraging censors and earning new fans, all of them drawn by the book's mythic premise: A Real Diary, by Anonymous.

Somewhat hypocritical
Revisado: 05-01-23
Part of the author’s rant against this fraudulent “nonfiction” book is the inclusion of personal political slant, yet that’s exactly what is found in huge helpings in this “nonfiction” book. The book is rife with anti-religion, anti-conservative vitriol which add nothing to the story. “Hello, Kettle, this is Pot calling…”

In 1994, an aspiring young cold-case investigator in California’s East Bay, Paul Holes, puts aside trying to solve the Golden State Killer case as he waits for science to catch up. Paul returns to an old file cabinet at the back of the forensic lab to look for another cold case he can work—something with DNA. He finds one. The 1978 murder of a married mother who went for a morning jog in a nearby park. The original investigators believed that a serial killer named Phillip Hughes was responsible; they just couldn’t prove it.

Enough with the political rhetorical already!
Revisado: 12-15-21
Typically good story spoiled by endless propaganda. Stick to the stories - your political rhetoric adds NOTHING and in fact, detracts. Although not quite as egregious as The Law of Innocence, it was still annoying.

Pass on this "performance"
Revisado: 11-27-19
I need to explain why I rated Story as 4 stars, I mean it's the bible so it should be an automatic 5 stars, right? The problem is this is a non-standard translation, based on but not identical to NIV. They should have stuck to the standard NIV translation.
The performance on the other hand is terrible! There is a lot of background sound that makes much of the reading very hard to hear, particularly in the Old Testament. Many of the narrators are awful, especially the ones who try to "sing" the Psalms and those who don't bother to learn proper pronunciation. Overall the Old Testament and the Gospels (including Acts) are tolerable but then come the epistolary books and everything goes downhill. The biblical books are randomly interrupted by tracks of caterwauling. I guess it's supposed to be music but it just sounds like noise and detracts from the scripture. And if that weren't annoying enough, there are chunks of text in the wrong order - the second half of a book comes before the first half of the book so you have to keep jumping around using the chapter controls. I was using this in conjunction with reading so I could see those errors but if you were only listening, you would be out of luck.
Next year I plan to use the NKJV that features an all star cast. I'm hoping it won't have similar technical glitches but I know the narration will be much higher quality.
