Historia
“You like it darker? Fine, so do I,” writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life—both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to digest.

As always, well written and well told

but one of the stories is basically about how even dogs can have a bad time, but you know what? I liked it anyway, as Stephen King becomes an old man hes writing more of my fav characters - old men in SK stories. Insomnia is my fav book by him, so that gives a feel for how these stories are going to be.

Historia
If the broken neon signs, shuttered storefronts, and sub-standard housing didn’t tip you off, you’ve just wandered into the city of “Undisclosed”. You don’t want to be caught dead here, because odds are you just might find yourself rising from the grave. That hasn’t stopped tourists from visiting to check out the unusual phenomena that hangs around our town like radioactive fallout. Interdimensional parasites feeding on human hosts, paranormal cults worshipping demonic entities, vengeful teenage sorcerers, we’ve got it all.

if you like this series you like this series. I've been reading from the blog days. The only noticeable difference in style is EVERY male reader in this kind of genre is now desperate to sound like Will Wheaton..I didn't mind muchbut the tone doesn't really fit sometimes. not everyone is hilariously shocked all the time

Historia
The one thing you never talk about while you’re in the Scholomance is what you’ll do when you get out. Not even the richest enclaver would tempt fate that way. But it’s all we dream about: the hideously slim chance we’ll survive to make it out the gates and improbably find ourselves with a life ahead of us, a life outside the Scholomance halls. And now the impossible dream has come true. I’m out, we’re all out. We saved everyone. So much for my great-grandmother’s prophecy of doom and destruction. Ha, only joking! Actually, it’s gone all wrong.

You can do it in three AND on schedule
Revisado: 10-10-22
Readers who seek quality over quantity and want to finish a series in the authors lifetime take note; Ms. Novik does it time and time again. I swear I knew she was the real deal when she made me care about dragons in the Napolenic war but she continues to surprise. This was the most free-form out of all series I've read so far but I still liked it. More as the series progressed, this is my favorite out of all of them. Anyway, love the work, love the creativity, fan for life over here.

Historia
Thousands of years ago, Earth's terraforming program took to the stars. On the world they called Nod, scientists discovered alien life - but it was their mission to overwrite it with the memory of Earth. Then humanity's great empire fell, and the program's decisions were lost to time. Aeons later, humanity and its new spider allies detected fragmentary radio signals between the stars. They dispatched an exploration vessel, hoping to find cousins from old Earth. But those ancient terraformers woke something on Nod better left undisturbed. And it's been waiting for them.

I love this series. The first book was a delight and this was just a beautiful continuation. I honestly identify more with the cephalopod way of thinking than the spiders.

Historia
I'm guessing you know of the Jehovah's Witnesses. You've heard of them. Maybe you've noticed their "Kingdom Halls." Maybe they've knocked on your door. But - do you really know anything about them? Before this week, I didn't. Now that I do, I will NEVER look at them the same way again. The Jehovah's may not live on a compound, but, in my opinion they are a dangerous doomsday cult. Their continual focus on impending Armageddon has hurt so, so many lives. And so has their "Two Witness Rule." The Governing Body of the Witnesses pressure congregations to not go to the police with criminal ...

not a big JW fan but need to get the facts straight when criticizing something. 144000 go to heaven, rest get to live eternally on a 'renewed' Earth. It's all BS but we're talking about it

Historia
Sherlock Holmes is an unparalleled genius who uses the gift of deduction and reason to solve the most vexing of crimes. Warlock Holmes, however, is an idiot. A good man, perhaps; a font of arcane power, certainly. But he’s brilliantly dim. Frankly, he couldn’t deduce his way out of a paper bag. The only things he has really got going for him are the might of a thousand demons and his stalwart flatmate. Thankfully, Dr. Watson is always there to aid him through the treacherous shoals of Victorian propriety...

Ever since Maureen Birmbaum: barbarian swordswoman, I've enjoyed these types of books. Doesnt attempt some smarmy retelling but takes familiar characters, dresses them in slightly different clothes and let them run free in a really fun book.

Historia
Mattie and Brewster are normal, typical 16-year-old twins who live with their normal, boring parents: Martin and Gwen Banks. Normal and boring, that is, until the day their father's best friend shows up at their house - dressed in what appears to be a bathrobe. The next thing Mattie and Brewster know, their parents are frozen like human statues in their living room, the guy in the bathrobe has vanished, and they need to find answers - fast.

Fun, cute story and I like that we've skipped to the kids. Although Brewster's young voice had me cringing a little, did not like.

Historia
A plucky farm boy will find more than he's bargained for on his quest to awaken the sleeping princess in her cursed tower. First there's the Dark Lord, who wishes for the boy's untimely death...and also very fine cheese. Then there's a bard without a song in her heart but with a very adorable and fuzzy tail, an assassin who fears not the night but is terrified of chickens, and a mighty fighter more frightened of her sword than of her chain-mail bikini. This journey will lead to sinister umlauts, a trash-talking goat, and the Dread Necromancer Steve....
