Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Deserving of a Pulitzer
Revisado: 06-02-23
The layers in this story are astounding and impeccably fleshed out exactly as needed. The story is fiction, but the facts of history and still current today. The narration is is exceptionally well done. Kudos to Charlie Thurston and Barbara Kingsolver. I will never forget this book.

Historia
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

Fun, enlivening, devastating, thoughtful, outrageous, and deep without trying. Read it. McConaughey has given us a map to living the life you want. His clarity and humor are a beacon to understanding. Fly toward that light like a moth in love with the moon.

Beautiful Story
Revisado: 02-23-22
Wonderfully read by the author, nobody sets a scene or sense of place like Barbara Kingsolver. The unfolding of this story was sometimes laugh at loud funny and sometimes gut wrenching. The characters are rich, the story memorable, and the history not to be forgotten. An unforgettable listen.

Brilliant Readings to Put the Active Mind to Rest
Revisado: 12-04-21
Molly and Kim have the most neutral, soothing voices to read one into a deep sleep. Individually they read from a collection of letters that may have been riveting at one time (debatable), but excerpted from the classic, the selected readings are out of context and uninteresting enough to coax the active mind into a relaxed state. Mind numbing, yet brilliant. It’s a massive improvement from the naps taken in high school English class. This is the way to quiet the mind and fall asleep naturally. Sweet dreams….

Historia
In The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo, Amy mines her past for stories about her teenage years, her family, relationships, and sex and shares the experiences that have shaped who she is - a woman with the courage to bare her soul to stand up for what she believes in, all while making us laugh. Down to earth and relatable, frank and unapologetic, Amy Schumer is one of us: She relies on her sister for advice, still hangs out with her high school pals, and continues to navigate the ever-changing boundaries in love, work, and life.

Wry, heartbreaking, and laugh out loud funny
Revisado: 09-04-16
Amy Schumer reading Amy Schumer is spot on hilarious. Yet the topics she covers are as unfunny as they come. Her vulnerability, generosity, and unflinching awareness of herself and what she observes and experiences makes her easily relatable and an outstanding storyteller. I listened while driving across the country and it was like having a good friend read her favorite book aloud to pass the time, except I was surprisingly expanded and deepened while I laughed along - the best feeling of all.

A Story Earworm - Can't stop thinking about it!
Revisado: 05-31-16
Captivating story with complex characters. The story unfolds with surprising twists and turns at a pace that keeps it interesting, but with enough time for the implications of what is going on to sink in. The unpredictable plot facilitated satisfying anxiety attacks during story turns. Melissa Williams' voice inflection and change in speech pattern as she switched between characters was incredible. Even when I stopped in the middle of a chapter and picked it up days later, I could recall from her tone and inflection exactly which character was thinking/speaking and where I had left off without starting at the beginning of the chapter - bonus! C'mon on Book 2!
