Revisado: 02-18-25
I’m not saying it was bad, but there’s so much that’s way too similar to FBAA, including using the same narrator. Like I get that nothing is original, don’t get me wrong, and I liked the story well enough, but it’s very similar in specific ways.
Outside of that, the story was hard to get submersed into, like I have no idea what the weather is like there because I feel like I got conflicting information. Some things had bad pacing, but the story was decent. I’d keep reading if there weren’t so many more books, all that take a credit each.

Historia
Hockey coach Ashley Jaswal doesn't take nonsense from anyone … except her overbearing and superstitious family. They believe she's a good luck charm for her brother Jas, the newest Vancouver Canucks draft pick, forcing Ash to attend all his games as he rises up the NHL ranks, sacrificing her personal life (not that she has one—who decided hockey season needed to be 10 months long anyway?). Ash also clashes with Jas’s teammate, Canucks captain Devin Snyder.

I wanted more of a story
Revisado: 02-15-25
While I appreciate the discussion about inclusion and minorities getting a shot, I felt like the actual storyline wasn’t there. I get that a big part was superstition, but the secrecy didn’t make much sense. The fmc allows herself to be abused by almost everyone in her life for the whole book, and then doesn’t actually resolve anything, claiming she’s holding them accountable by basically giving them the silent treatment. The whole meet cute scene was kinda icky on her part, and didn’t really make much sense. Like isn’t that technically a crime? The narration wasn’t really there for me. Voice went from overly bubbly to clenched teeth, which sort of warbled the speech. Like I couldn’t tell if the character was frustratedly whispering or if it was just the narration style. The ending also felt so random, I felt like I was missing a chapter with how the resolution came to be. Unfortunately it just fell kinda short for me.

Historia
Trauma nurse Aly Cappellucci doesn’t need any more kinks. She likes the one she’s landed on just fine. To her, nothing could top the masked men she follows online. Unless one of those men was shirtless, heavily tattooed, and waiting for her in her bedroom. She dreams about being hunted by one in particular, of him chasing her down and doing deliciously dark things to her willing body. She never could have guessed that by sending one drunken text, those dreams would become her new reality.

*sigh* once again booktok let me down
Revisado: 01-05-25
Listen, I wanted to like it, I really did. But the fmc in particular was a bit insufferable. She wasn’t actually funny, her jokes came off as poorly timed and immature. Like don’t get me wrong I understand the idea, but it was poorly executed. The story was not at all what I wanted it to be. Too often I was tired of listening to her think. And her narration was a bit like listening to a wall, there wasn’t any depth. His narration was better, and his jokes and timing were usually better. But like, she didn’t fit the type enough, she kept trying to pull stuff in an unbelievable way rather than letting it be (I’m trying to be vague for spoilers and such).
Look I wasn’t expecting an outstanding piece of fiction from booktok or anything but this like dragged on with dumb decision after dumb decision and was missing any kind of spark to draw in. Feel like I wasted a credit with it honestly.

Wait wait wait I need more
Revisado: 12-27-24
Okay I went into this not really knowing what to expect. I also wasn’t completely on board with the narration at first, it was almost like there was a static-y quality to it, but I built a bridge and got over it.
The story was actually really good, plays well off of our own panic from the pandemic and is almost a ‘what could have happened’ mixed with a fear of the rise in technology etc.
My only gripe is I selfishly want more right this very moment.

Okay, I picked this up because it was supposed to be a quick little read that I was going to add to my yearly reading list. So tell my why it’s 11pm and I’m sobbing at the end? Tell me why the plot that I knew was going to play out the way it did touched me so much that it jammed its sticky little fingers into my heart. I don’t know, but you should want to know

The writing is pretty juvenile and hard to follow
Revisado: 07-08-24
The story is fairly good. The plot points aren’t entirely brand new, and it was fairly simple to guess what was happening but that’s fine.
The writing would be perfect for early/mid teens except for the fact that there’s so much discussion sex and random cuss words. Like half the time they use words instead of cursing, and then they’ll immediately curse. It’s a strange combo, like with do it or don’t?
Also the friends are horrible people. They’re not kind to each other, they’re judgmental and demanding, not something anyone should be accepting in a healthy friendship, so terrible model with that.
Sometimes I’d be listening and it seemed like whole paragraphs were skipped. Like if blink and it would be a different setting.
Like I said the story was fine, but it’s not grade a classics material.
Also heads up, the 1.5 novella is at the beginning of this so you don’t need to go and purchase it.
