Qui-Gon the Communist
Revisado: 02-15-22
Disney can't help but infect any Star Wars content with leftist politics. A literal quote from Qui-Gon in the book: "Forgive me, master Yoda, but are you putting the profit of corporations ahead the people of [the planet]?" I couldn't stop cringing at this college freshman level of intellect when it comes to political analysis coming from an allegedly wise and learned Jedi master. The big evil of the story is some megacorporation enslaving people through private prisons and destroying the environment. Some quasi-leftist group was framed as committing acts of terrorism but it turns out they were just a bunch of alter artist activists agitating for democracy and prison reform. Current day politics is shamelessly shoehorned into the story with a lack of nuance surprising even for Disney. Beyond that, the alleged conflicts between Qui-Gon and Obi Wan were at best slight misunderstandings blown out of proportion. The exploration of why Qui-Gon became interested in jedi prophecies is the only positive side of the book.
The narration is fantastic.

The chapter titles are sorely missing
Revisado: 01-29-22
This is one of the best books on writing I've ever read. It includes so many unique advice I've never heard, despite going through dozens of similar books it became my very favorite. However the utility of the audiobook is greatly diminished by the fact that the chapters are untitled so going back and finding a specific topic is nigh impossible, unless you do your own bookmarks. I don't understand why so many non-fiction audiobooks do this, it really renders them much less useful.

Historia
While writers might disagree over showing versus telling or plotting versus pantsing, none would argue this: If you want to write strong fiction, you must make your readers feel. The reader's experience must be an emotional journey of its own, one as involving as your characters' struggles, discoveries, and triumphs are for you. That's where The Emotional Craft of Fiction comes in. Veteran literary agent and expert fiction instructor Donald Maass shows you how to use story to provoke a visceral and emotional experience in readers.

A fine book
Revisado: 01-28-22
A fine book, my only issue was with the narrator not saying when a quote begins and ends. Since the book is full of them and there was no audible (hehe) way of discerning quote from author voice, it was often confusing and hard to follow.

Historia
Ayn Rand discusses how a writer combines abstract ideas with concrete action and description to achieve a unity of theme, plot, characterization, and style, the four essential elements of fiction. Here, too, are Rand's illuminating analyses of passages from famous writers, rewrites of scenes from her own works, and fascinating rules for building dramatic plots and characters with depth.

Massive waste of time
Revisado: 01-26-22
I like Rand so I wasn't coming to this book with that frothing hostility that leftists tend to display but this was such massive waste of time, probably the worst book on writing I've ever read and I've read over 30 at this point. Trying to combine writing advice with general philosophy, it dabbles in both but does not dive deep enough in either. Not technical enough where it should be and too specific when abstraction would suffice. Too long irrelevant quotes as examples when none is needed if the explanation of the technique is sufficient. It feels like a stream of consciousness instead of a systemic presentation of the subject. I was really hoping for more from Rand; maybe her Romantic Manifesto will be better.

Great stories but that's about it
Revisado: 12-09-20
As always, Robert Greene is an excellent storyteller, but frankly, I haven't really found any practical value in this book. The historical incursions from which he derives his practical insights are entertaining but the insights themselves have zero originality to them.

Plenty of great, practical advice
Revisado: 12-03-20
If I want to be honest, I really dislike the title and the title was the sole reason why I haven't bought the book for a long while, despite the fact that I follow Ryan on social media and really like his content in general. The title always gave me MLM vibes but the content itself is great, practical, appilcable, deals exactly the kind of issues - whether it is funding, inventory management or marketing - that any business will face.

Customers, followers, subscribers. It's easy to just look at the numbers. How many likes? How many purchases? How many email subscribers? But as entrepreneurs, we have to remember that there are people behind all that data. People who are looking to us to be a leader, to give advice, and to care. In this dog-eat-dog world, these are the people who are looking for someone who they can trust and who they know have their best interests in mind.

A great summary of the Superfans concept
Revisado: 11-30-20
I've been looking into the idea of superfans for a while now cuz I'm in a niche which is primed for this sort of a business model. I never heard about Pat before and it annoyed me that the book starts with a sales funnel invitation but beyond that, Superfans is a great collection of all the information and ideas about the subject scattered on the internet. I don't think there is much originality to it but simply collecting and systematizing the concept and practice of building your model around Superfans is a great service that Pat has provided with this book. I'm definitely adding this book to my all time favorites and will come back to it a few more times to absorb all the countless tiny practical advices in the book.

Great marketers don't use consumers to solve their company's problem; they use marketing to solve other people's problems. Their tactics rely on empathy, connection, and emotional labor instead of attention-stealing ads. When done right, marketing seeks to make change in the world.

The Best Marketing Toolkit
Revisado: 11-23-20
I really love this book. I was looking for a book which isn't your average "motivational book for entrepreneurs" kind of book but one filled with applicable, practical, hands-on-deck methods and tools and this book delived more than 100%. It is full of practical means and it explains perfectly what marketing is and how exactly to do it. This book has definitely become one of my most treasured one in my library and I'll definitely give it a few more listens.
