I loved American royals but this book felt very “try hard.” The circumstances coupled with time gaps and superficial characters created a story line that did not leave me eager to read the sequel to which the ending alluded.

Perhaps the title gives it away but this was not what I expected and not in a good way. This was a pretty heavy book for what I was hoping to be a continuation of the first. 3/5

So bad.
Revisado: 08-24-24
Whoever wrote this book is like Cinderella for adults could not have been more wrong as there was nothing Disney-line about it. This book was so dark (search up TWs), had one-dimensional characters, and hardly any plot. I only powered through because I spent a credit on it - 0/10.

It’s the opening night of The Manor, the newest and hottest luxury resort, and no expense, small or large, has been spared. The infinity pool sparkles; the “Manor Mule” cocktail (grapefruit, ginger, vodka, and a dash of CBD oil) is being poured with a heavy hand. Everyone is wearing linen.

Such a waste of time
Revisado: 08-19-24
There was nothing thrilling, alluring or mysterious about this book. I had already reached the halfway point about to DNF out of boredom but powered through so the credit would not be wasted…it did not get better. The whole book was ridiculous from the plot to the characters to the non-atmospheric *atmosphere;* even if it was condensed to be an hour long I still would not recommend it.

Suren, child queen of the Court of Teeth, and the one person with power over her mother, fled to the human world. There, she lives feral in the woods. Just okay for me
Revisado: 07-08-23
3.75 stars. I just finished the cruel prince trilogy and was excited for this book as it follows Wren and Oak…it did fall a little short for me. Whereas the Cruel Prince gripped me from the first chapter and kept hold, this book just kind of lulled on until the last third. I am hoping the next one will be better and still think it’s worth a read if you are a fan of Elfhame.

Loved the narrator
Revisado: 07-07-23
I really enjoyed the narrator, I feel like she did the main character justice and really captured her personality and quirkiness. That said, this book was a trek…I definitely had to push through because it is slow going for probably 70% and then picks up at the end. It is a LOT of background information. Ultimately I feel like the book did not need to be so drawn out and likely won’t be picking up the sequel, but I did enjoy MC’s personality and the humor she brought to a tricky situation.

Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

I was captured in the first chapter and could not put this book down. I am so excited for this series that I’ve already preordered book 2! The characters, the pace, the plot, the world building - all of it was wonderfully done. I have not been this excited for a book in a long time. If you want to go on a great adventure from the comfort of your home, please read this.

Boring, slow, and repetitive.
Revisado: 07-06-23
This book sounds good in the description but it is not anywhere near a war among witches. There is very little magic, no world building, no atmosphere (and it’s supposed to take place in NYC!), and the characters are so predictable. I was unable to connect with any of them. I powered through this book just to say I finished it and could give an honest review. This is a book of family dedication…and the author makes sure to remind you of the “power” of sisterhood and brotherhood every few sentences. I wish I was kidding. It was annoyingly repetitive.

Don’t waste your time - boring.
Revisado: 06-28-23
I almost added this to my DNF but pushed through - it never got better. I found the plot to drag, the characters to be superficial, and overall it was a huge let down. The idea of coldtowns is interesting but the author (whom I usually like) missed the mark with this one. Pick up Vampire Academy if you’re looking for an easy and entertaining read.
