On a typical day, on an average train platform, two warring sister goddesses found their avatars. One avatar, the young Yoshi, was swept away to the world of Ephemera to be a great hero of honor, courage, and light. The other, the not-so-young Seiji, was swept away to become a dark lord out to kill or conquer all in his path. But Seiji is in absolutely no mood for that nonsense. It's bad enough that on Earth he was a closed-off, misanthropic grouch with zero patience for other people. Now he's supposed to muster enough of a give-a-damn to lead vile hordes?

Not long ago, Seiji was an ill-tempered, misanthropic man at war with the world. But then he was transported to a strange, savage realm for the purpose of literally making war on the world. In this reality, he's an extremely reluctant evil overlord with a temperamental goddess patron to please.

Transported from Earth to another world by a temperamental goddess, misanthrope Seiji was suddenly a dark lord of incredible power. Not that he wanted that exactly. He just hated everything and everyone and wanted to be left alone. So as a big baddie, he's tried to hold back on the pure-evil schtick and make life a little better for his people—without being a total wuss, of course. But sometimes baddies gotta be bad. And now Seiji has found himself caught in a military, political, and possibly genocidal conflict with goblins.

The Baron Sherazad sent me as far away from Eslant as possible. Now, I’m stuck in the middle of nowhere, in a nest full of enemies, with only a demented mimic and a renegade elf to watch my back.

Ashlock wakes in the courtyard of a demonic sect... as a tree. A tree that eats people. An odd start to a new life. Almost as strange as the humans flying through the skies on flaming swords and challenging the heavens. After all, this is a world where humans could chase the goal of immortality through the art of cultivation. But Ashlock is merely a sapling in a desolate courtyard, left alone with his thoughts and unable to speak to those passing him by. Unless he does something about it.

Rising from the ashes, Ashlock fully accepts his new reality as a tree. However, he is still surrounded by an antagonistic demonic sect that is too big a threat to face by himself. With no way to run, he must stand his ground and fight. But not alone. It's time for him to gather dependable allies and form his own sect. But a sect is more than the sum of its people. Not only must he gather talented individuals, but he will also need to build a place he can proudly call home in this crazy world.
