Historia
What’s in a label? Are we the product of our upbringing or do we have a natural propensity towards good or evil? The eternal question of nature vs nurture is at the centre of Dr Diane Buckley’s world. A talented freelance forensic psychologist who has never quite found the key to engaging with people on a casual level, she is drafted in to examine a grisly murder – a body found in a children’s playground.

Didn’t expect to like it - couldn’t turn it off!

It’s important to know what you’re getting into. This is not an audio book like you’re used to. It’s more like a modern day version of an audio play. That took a little getting used to. It’s an old fashioned who dunnit, not too hard to follow, with enough twists and turns to keep you pressing play. The accents took extra focus (I’m American), but that’s probably good because you need to be listening for hints and clues along the way. Highly recommend it!

Historia
In this critically acclaimed true crime tale of "welfare queen" Linda Taylor, a Slate editor reveals a "wild, only-in-America story" of political manipulation and murder (Attica Locke, Edgar Award-winning author). Part social history, part true-crime investigation, Josh Levin's mesmerizing book, the product of six years of reporting and research, is a fascinating account of American racism, and an exposé of the "welfare queen" myth, one that fueled political debates that reverberate to this day.

Very interesting, very dense
Revisado: 09-21-21
The writing and the performance were excellent, and if you find this kind of thing interesting (which I do), it’s a VERY in-depth look at the details of a story of infamy that anyone of a certain age will remember. It meanders a bit when discussing the impact, but I liked that it addressed how one person’s story was patched onto for political ends. At times. It felt like a litany of abuses of the system, just over and over and over. It was almost too much detail. Could have had the same impact in half the length. But it left no stone unturned in this fascinating situation. Would recommend.

Historia
This fundamental historical question and its complex answer speak penetratingly to the spiritual impulses, concerns, and beliefs that have played a seminal role in our world, even as they reveal the foundation of history’s most global religious movement, and fresh insights into the Western world's single most influential human being. Tackling all of these matters and more, Great Courses favorite Professor Ehrman returns with the unprecedented historical inquiry of How Jesus Became God.

Very thoroughly considered

The lessons are a good length for taking in little by little (35 minutes or so) and each one builds on the next. The instructor/author's delivery is clear and easy to follow, and is scholarly both in tone and content. Highly recommend!
