Historia
Three very different women come together to complete an environmental survey on the Northumberland countryside. Three women who, in some way or another, know the meaning of betrayal....For team leader Rachael Lambert the project is the perfect opportunity to rebuild her confidence after a double-betrayal by her lover and boss, Peter Kemp. Botanist Anne Preece, on the other hand, sees it as a chance to indulge in a little deception of her own. And then there is Grace Fulwell, a strange, uncommunicative young woman with plenty of her own secrets to hide.

Kept me engaged throughout
Revisado: 07-15-18
I started this book before I knew the tv series was based on it and didn't expect much. I was engrossed before the end of the first chapter. The narrator was very good, especially as Vera, though the men were a bit weak. Luckily, most of the characters were women so that was a minor distraction. I'd definitely recommend this book and look forward the rest of the series.

I don't know what the humans are so cranky about. Their enclosures are large, they ingest over 1,000 calories per day, and they're allowed to mate. Plus, they have me: an Autonomous Servile Unit, housed in a mobile/bipedal chassis. I do my job well: keep the humans healthy and happy.

Humor, heart, adventure...what's no to love?
Revisado: 05-20-18
I'm always hesitant to listen to books narrated by the author, but Dircks does a fabulous job. The book was funny and poignant. Only complaint I have is there is all the characters have the same personality. Still, it's a fun read.

Well done!
Revisado: 12-06-16
I usually avoid books narrated by the author, but bought this one before I noticed. It was unbelievably well done. Maybe he performed the characters so well, because he created them. I was totally engrossed. What an amazing storyteller!

Historia
German bombers are arriving daily, seeking to crush England. But in a rural Hampshire village, things have remained fairly quiet - until an elderly loner, Will Blackwell, is brutally murdered. The method of his killing bears the hallmarks of the traditional vanquishing of a witch, and indeed local legend claims that as a boy Blackwell encountered a ghostly black dog sent from the devil, who struck a bargain for Blackwell's soul.

I liked the story, but had to stop after a few chapters. The narrator was terrible!
