the story is average, but the rhythm and pace the female narrator is awful. she is so rhythmed it sounds like she is reading a poem.

Every three or four words she reeeeaaads.
Sometimes it's 8 or nine.
But then she then she drop down to threee.

She sounds so unnatural. I will avoid books narrated by her. this performance was awful.

The only redeeming quality about this book was the narrator. The heroine was awful. Recently widowed and pregnant with her fifth child, I was appalled how easily and quickly she let another man in her and her children's life so quickly. Not to mention she let him sleep under the same roof as her children after she had unprotected sex with him. I should have stop there but I continued with the torture of this story hoping she got some sense, but it never came. So glad it is over.

If you could sum up The Black Plagues: United We Stand, Divided We Fall in three words, what would they be?

Honest. Needed. Impact.

What other book might you compare The Black Plagues: United We Stand, Divided We Fall to and why?

Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria: And Other Conversations About Race because this book tackles some pressing issues in the black community and dares to "go there".

What does Spencer Bryant bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I really enjoyed his reach, deep, male voice. It added emphases behind the already powerful words.

Any additional comments?

This book tackles some of the most pressing issues in the black community. Issues that may offend or hurt, but need to be addressed nonetheless. What I like about this book is that while it dares to "go there" it is handled with caution. It brings food for thought to the table. While this book doesn't necessarily provide answers, this book gives you something to chew on while you consider the message. I definitely think this book brings up topics that are worth discussing in a group setting. Even if you don't agree with the author, I definitely think it is worth examining where you stand on the issues and I think that is the point of this book. To talk about those issues and not ignore these plagues.
