Historia
Emma Gatewood told her family she was going on a walk and left her small Ohio hometown with a change of clothes and less than $200. The next anybody heard from her, this genteel, farm-reared, 67-year-old great-grandmother had walked 800 miles along the 2,050-mile Appalachian Trail. And in September 1955, atop Maine's Mount Katahdin, she sang the first verse of "America, the Beautiful" and proclaimed, "I said I'll do it, and I've done it."

Storyline Great/Narration Lacking
Revisado: 02-07-23
I normally do write reviews but the narration in this one lacked the passion that was written into the story line. It was obvious the narrator was just reading the dialog. I almost returned this book several times, due to the lack luster narration.

Outstanding
Revisado: 02-19-22
I love historical fiction and Sharon Mass has created an excellent storyline. Setting the stage with family ties, adding in believable Intrigue and suspense and just enough romance (without to much detail) and the emotional detail was riveting. I identified with Sibbi, at times feeling her frustration, rage, fear, disgust, remorse, and the mix of emotions between two worlds, two men, and her duty to country and freedom. Henrietta Meire did a splendid job of narration. I will be looking for more historical fiction by this pair. Bravo!

Historia
After the death of her adoptive mother, Ava Saunders comes upon a peculiar photograph, sealed and hidden away in a crawl space. The photo shows a shuttered, ramshackle house on top of a steep hill. On the back, a puzzling inscription: Destiny calls us. Ava is certain that it's a clue to her elusive past. Twenty-three years ago, she'd been found wrapped in a yellow blanket in the narthex of the Holy Saviour Catholic Church - and rescued - or so she'd been told. Her mother claimed there was no more to the story.

Gripping to the very end! Not predictive, suspenseful and intriguingly logical yet emotionally riveting. Bravo!
