enjoyed very much but...
Revisado: 07-29-24
this was a great story but for all the build up the end came and went to quickly. It was an abrupt ending that left me feeling cheated. It was like the author was sick of writing it and went "eh, good enough".

Historia
Scraps, a gutter child, is sitting in his hiding place in a back alley, waiting for the cold thunderstorm to pass. Suddenly, lightning strikes in front of him, and then a second time. The two lightning bolts become men — two wizards — one from the Red Order, the other from the Blue. The Red Wizard, chanting his curses, throws lightning bolts and fireballs. The Blue Wizard, singing his spells, throws lightning bolts and ice shards.

Hurry up and write the sequel already!

Felt a lot like the Dragon Mage books. Same kind of story which was cool and I love this narrator. I looked to see if there was a sequel but not yet.

almost done through the books in this series!
Revisado: 09-22-23
I only have 4 more books in this series. So far the Manners and Monsters books are my favorite. I'm almost done Tortament of Shadows and then just have the the Highland Wolves left. This is a very addictive series with likable characters and a perfect mix of fantasy, mystery and gothic romance. likable characters and excellent narration. Ms Massey has a very pleasant voice and cadence. I am loath to point out, but these books are definitely laced heavily with feminism and other obvious political leanings. Of course, it is fair and accurate to inject some of that in historical pieces. However, political leanings are not sprinkled in there but a main ingredient, and that can be a turn off to some people, so I will warn those people in advance. I am completely used to looking past that, so it didn't ruin anything for me. Others of similar persuasion will love it.

Historia
When Alice Cooper became the stuff of legend in the early '70s, their shows were monuments of fun and invention. Riding on a string of hits like "I'm 18" and "School's Out", they became America's highest-grossing act, producing four platinum albums and hitting number one on the US and UK charts with Billion Dollar Babies in 1973. Their utterly original performance style and look, known as shock rock, was swiftly copied by countless bands.

Missing my father...
Revisado: 12-27-22
This book made me miss my father greatly. He was an amazing musician! He spent his teens in the 60s rocking out to Sabbath, and of course, the Alice Cooper Band. He raised me proper with a great appreciation for both bands among others. Alice Cooper for me withstands the test of time more than any other. As Dennis points out, the narrative of the Alice Cooper Band was controlled by the press/media, record companies and rumor. So many times while listening to this I burst into tears cause
my father is no longer here to discuss this book and its contents with.
Listening to Dennis's stories, I could see him in the 60s in a very similar place of musicianship and comradery. I feel the sting of the "what could have been" with so much amazing material left in my hands. Dennis and Chris paint amazing pictures that transport me back to a time I've never been but, through my father, I know so well.
I'm sure I am not the only one who is filled with nostalgia listening to this book. It was a very bitter sweet read.

Historia
Philip and Margaret Waverton and their friend Roger Penderel are driving through the mountains of Wales when a torrential downpour washes away the road and forces them to seek shelter for the night. They take refuge in an ancient, crumbling mansion inhabited by the strange and sinister Femm family and their brutish servant Morgan. Determined to make the best of the circumstances, the benighted travelers drink, talk, and play games to pass the time while the storm rages outside. But as the night progresses and tensions rise, dangerous and unexpected secrets emerge.

Dreadfully Depressing...
Revisado: 11-07-22
I got this cause I love the old movie " old dark house" so much. one of the rare time I can say the movie is better than the book. It was very depressing and coming from me that's saying something. It drolled on so slow for a relatively short novel. Didn't delve into the Femms much more at all like I had hoped and character development was terrible. It didn't have a happy ending which is probably one of the reasons I liked the movie better. Normally that would not bother me at all but with a with such a depressing vibe it really needed one to be bearable.
