Historia
An artificial object made of compressed stardust is barreling toward Earth. Is it an invasion ship? A doomsday weapon? Perhaps it’s the final response of Squanto, the Warlord of Rigel who James McGill has repeatedly humiliated. Or could it be from the Mogwa, sent to avenge McGill’s assassination of Earth’s Imperial Governor? No one knows the truth of its origins, but the object is huge and unstoppable. Whoever hurled this rock at us isn’t answering our calls. Every weapon bounces off, and the people of Earth begin to go mad as they realize their destruction is only hours away.

Very disappointed with the lack of content in this novel. I feel like this was intentionally made short to sell more, small novels. A shame.

Pierce Brown Does it Again
Revisado: 08-20-22
Between Iron Age and Dark Age, I had almost forgotten how brutal and brilliant Brown's craft is. The characters are still complex, the tension is nearly palpable, and the plot twists never cease to amaze. With every book, I am glad to be alive to witness the rise of a legendary science fiction author such as Brown.

Arsène Lupin in a Fantastical Heist
Revisado: 08-18-21
Without knowing the correlation, I had just finished the show Lupin on Netflix when I got this audiobook. The narration was fantastic, and the story was a wild adventure. Locke's wit and fast-thinking kept me smiling throughout the book. Fantasy, action, heist, murder, betrayal...this book has got it all. If you're looking for a deviation from a hero saving the day, grab this book about a morally flexible thief and his questionable ways.

Historia
When Rin aced the Keju - the Empire-wide test to find the most talented youth to learn at the Academies - it was a shock to everyone: to the test officials, who couldn’t believe a war orphan from Rooster Province could pass without cheating; to Rin’s guardians, who believed they’d finally be able to marry her off and further their criminal enterprise; and to Rin herself, who realized she was finally free of the servitude and despair that had made up her daily existence. That she got into Sinegard - the most elite military school in Nikan - was even more surprising.

Great adventure
Revisado: 12-15-20
I knew nothing about this book when I bought it other than Redditors love it. This story took me on a wild ride at a breakneck pace. What I thought would be a slow fantasy like Harry Potter (poor kid accepted to special school) turned into a constantly escalating, nuclear warhead powered elevator ride to the heavens.
Unless I am mistaken, this is my first Asian themed fantasy book ever. I was skeptical at first since I didn't know what to expect, yet I was consistently finding myself going, "Oh, s**t! No way! Sick."

Historia
Logen Ninefingers, infamous barbarian, has finally run out of luck. Caught in one feud too many, he's on the verge of becoming a dead barbarian - leaving nothing behind him but bad songs, dead friends, and a lot of happy enemies. Nobleman, dashing officer, and paragon of selfishness, Captain Jezal dan Luthar has nothing more dangerous in mind than fleecing his friends at cards and dreaming of glory in the fencing circle. But war is brewing, and on the battlefields of the frozen North they fight by altogether bloodier rules.

A long prologue
Revisado: 10-01-20
I started this book after many recommendations about the author. I enjoyed several of the characters (Inquisitor Glocter and West's sister in particular). The world building felt like a vanilla, low-magic, European medieval fantasy
I initially believed this to be very character-driven story and had no clue how it would all fall together. When it did, I was underwhelmed since it felt like Aberceombie railroaded the story. X had to happen before Y and then Z. This book was written with the intent to introduce characters who do something more interesting if you buy the next book.
I don't hate the author for doing this since that's how one makes money in publishing. I'm disgruntled because I felt dissatisfied after reading it. No reader should feel this way.
The author forced the characters to team up for inexplicable reasons to fight a threat so mysterious and vague that it seems that the author himself didn't know what was in the next book. Sure, I might understand more about the cannibal cult if I buy the sequel, but I don't understand the purpose after 20 some hours of listening.
My biggest complaint was that this book does not feel like a complete story on its own. What makes me feel like more of an idiot is because the author builds an entire world and based his career off of this setting. Either I'm missing something (likely) or these books will not not live up to the hype.
Yes, I liked it overall and will try the next book. And yes, I feel like an ass for not having more positive things to say right now. I admire Aberceombie for being a successful fantasy author, but, dammit, I just watched the 2020 presidential debates and need to vent.

Conservative Propaganda
Revisado: 06-17-17
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
This book is perfect for right-wing, conservative Christian Republicans who believe helping others means unrestricted gun laws.
What was most disappointing about Mark Goodwin’s story?
The story's premise unabashedly ripped into President Obama (a.k.a. Al Muhammad) "ruining America" through the ACA, expanding welfare, and the fictitious law change to ban gun sales outright. The if/then scenarios that Goodwin proposed were not only unlikely but entirely fantastical, which does not make for an enjoyable and conceivable, modern political thriller.
Would you be willing to try another one of Kevin Pierce’s performances?
Kevin Pierce's performance made a bad story unbearable. His dry monotone lacked any semblance of energy, inflection or varying voices. Pierce has absolutely no voice acting talent. As a matter of fact, I may avoid the entire publishing company altogether simply for stooping low enough to hire him.

Gut-wrenching Plot Twists
Revisado: 11-09-16
If you could sum up Morning Star in three words, what would they be?
Hold your breath.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Either Roke or Cassius were my favorite character because of their honor-bound morals and their decisions that led to such controversy.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Rapid Storyline
Revisado: 11-09-16
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
The story would jump ahead in time with barely an explanation, which made me struggle to keep up with the pace. I was hoping for more a gritty, dirty story of some badass mercenaries. I liked the main character, but the supporting characters and the story left me unfulfilled.
Would you recommend The Black Company to your friends? Why or why not?
Probably not.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
Distinguish each character's voice more, as they were all too similar.
Could you see The Black Company being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
No.

R-Rated Harry Potter, Dash of Dresden
Revisado: 08-30-16
The Elemental series by Rain Oxford is comparable to an R-rated Harry Potter with a taste of The Dresden Files. The setting gives readers the familiar feeling of Hogwarts, but cuts out most childish drama and puts supernatural murders in its place. The characters are dark, flawed and likable. This is great series so far that I highly recommend to lovers of modern fantasy.
