Historia
In this meditation on the music of the natural world, Moore celebrates the call of loons, howl of wolves, bellow of whales, laughter of children, and shriek of frogs, even as she warns of the threats against them. Each group of essays moves, as Moore herself has been moved, from celebration to lamentation to bewilderment and finally to the determination to act in defense of wild songs and the creatures who sing them.

Beautifully Depressing
Revisado: 03-22-25
The writing style is absolutely beautiful. Probably some of the best I've read in a while. Particularly when she describes sounds. However, the way this book is laid out is challenging to read. Made up as a collection of essays that tries to tie themselves together in a cohesive way, I find it misses the mark and feels disjointed and, at times, frustratingto follow.
There is also an interesting juxtaposition of feeling like you are seeing the world through a child's eyes- full of wonder, hope, and excitement. Only to be ripped away with a feeling of dispare, hopelessness, bitterness, and resentment - an adults view of what is happening to our world.
Very much like the movie Up in terms of contrast of perspectives. Grumpy older gentlemen in contrast to the boyent energy of the young man.
Overall. not may favorite read. Book was better than the audio book in my opinion because of the vocal fluctuations of the reader in the audio book. Grated on my nerves and I definitely sped up the reading just to hurry and get through it.

Historia
The many lives of theoretical physicist Elsie Hannaway have finally caught up with her. By day, she’s an adjunct professor, toiling away at grading labs and teaching thermodynamics in the hopes of landing tenure. By other day, Elsie makes up for her non-existent paycheck by offering her services as a fake girlfriend, tapping into her expertly honed people-pleasing skills to embody whichever version of herself the client needs. Honestly, it’s a pretty sweet gig—until her carefully constructed Elsie-verse comes crashing down.

Not for Me
Revisado: 02-25-25
Just not the book for me. The FMC nearly drove me up a wall with her insecurities and the chemistry she had with the MMC was nonexistent. Almost DNF it, but was most of the way through it so I stuck it out.

The only person not looking forward to the party of the year is Nina herself.
