Historia
Every dawn brings horror to a different family in a land ruled by a killer. Khalid, the 18-year-old caliph of Khorasan, takes a new bride each night only to have her executed at sunrise. So it is a suspicious surprise when 16-year-old Shahrzad volunteers to marry Khalid. But she does so with a clever plan to stay alive and exact revenge on the caliph for the murder of her best friend and countless other girls. Shazi's wit and will, indeed, get her through to the dawn that no others have seen, but with a catch.

Worthy of a Better Narrator
Revisado: 06-27-18
The book is astonishing, lovely—a real treat. But the narrator sounds like a high-school girl in over her head, over-enunciating everything and emoting not at all.

Find an Editor
Revisado: 09-16-15
The story is fascinating, but the author can't stop himself from including absolutely everything that he learned, no matter how tedious or inconsequential, and also seems desperate to flatter his sources in a way that becomes uncomfortable.

Historia
It's difficult to be taken seriously when you are a member of the Magical community and saddled with the unfortunate name 'Goldie Locke'. It certainly doesn't help if you are also about five feet tall, blond, and most commonly described as 'cute.' What was a girl to do? Become one of the most dreaded Magical environmental lawyers of all time? Goldie isn't there yet, but she's well on her way when a case drags her into uncharted territory.

Really Terrible Narration
Revisado: 03-21-15
The narrator over-enunciates everything ridiculously--it's incredibly annoying--and mispronounces many words. Occult doesn't rhyme with boggle; the "forbidden symbol" is not a pentagon. It is a pentagram. Will definitely never buy another book narrated by L.E. Scott.
That said, the book is light and fun, and would have been an enjoyable listen with a different narrator.

Historia
Fifteenth-century Venice is a safe haven for the masterless dregs of the vampire world, a city where they can live without the fear of retribution for violating another's territory. Still, there are plenty of ways for a young vampire to die in the glittering city, a lesson that prince turned pauper Mircea Basarab must learn quickly. But there are opportunities, too - in the service of a secretive courtesan, in the bed of a beautiful senator, and in the hunt for an ancient assassin.

Lousy Voice Choices
Revisado: 08-12-14
This performer made some really ghastly decisions: over-the-top, borderline racist accents; shrill, awful children's voices. I stopped caring what happened to the characters before I was halfway through, and can't tell whether that was the writing (I am a fan of the series overall) or the performance--or both.

Historia
A veteran book reviewer, Yanofsky has spent a lifetime immersed in literature (not to mention old movies and old jokes), which he calls shtick. This account of a year in the life of a family describes a father’s struggle to enter his son’s world, the world of autism, using the materials he knows best: self-help books, feel-good memoirs, literary classics from the Bible to Dr. Seuss, old movies, and, yes, shtick. Funny, wrenching, and unfailingly candid, Bad Animals is both an exploration of a baffling condition and a quirky love story told by a gifted writer.

Very Irritating Narrator
Revisado: 04-09-13
I was looking for a memoir about parenting an autistic child, and got a memoir about being a lousy parent to an autistic child:okay, fair enough. But the narrator's whiny voice has made listening to this book a real chore.
