very disjointed
Revisado: 04-04-25
I kept waiting for the story to pull together with a common thread but I just didn't see it or hear it. although I listen to the end still hoping for a good ending... it just never came. The total waste of time although the ladies did very well with the narration.

first half of the book was outstanding
Revisado: 03-23-25
it would appear that the last 3 hours of the book The author was struggling to fill pages with words... I found most of what was told to be irrelevant to the story at hand. Way too much regular history and I could not for the life of me figure out the connection to the characters. I wish the author had been more diligent relaying the story within instead of expanding out. A very disappointing ending. overall a very poor use of my time.

An unexpectedly riveting story
Revisado: 03-17-25
Paranormal writings do not normally hold my interest.....however, I was well into this story before I realized it was heading in that direction.. The narrator, Ms. Cobb's voice was clear and her inflections dragged me further into the plot. Having no understanding of any of it, I found I was hanging on to every word and then in my mind, I began to think that all sorts of things were possible.
Well done......great story....and a believable story and well told. I will pursue other novels by Kelley McNeil and, hopefully, Amanda Leigh Cobb will be the narrator. I recommend this book without hesitation.....

psychic stories are not my normal choice
Revisado: 02-21-25
this book held my interest but I thought I bought a total story not a tease to another book. have to evaluate in my mind if it's worth buying another book to find out what actually happened. very unhappy this book did not have an ending... or even come close.

Historia
Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Surêté du Québec and his team of investigators are called in to the scene of a suspicious death in a rural village south of Montreal. Jane Neal, a local fixture in the tiny hamlet of Three Pines, just north of the U.S. border, has been found dead in the woods. The locals are certain it’s a tragic hunting accident and nothing more, but Gamache smells something foul in these remote woods, and is soon certain that Jane Neal died at the hands of someone much more sinister than a careless bowhunter.

story content lacking
Revisado: 02-14-25
I stuck it out to hear the whole book because sometimes halfway through a poorly written novel will all of a sudden come alive. not the case with this one The characters were too many in number and confusing to keep track of. The whole story based on these stick figure drawings were a little far-fetched.

very confusing to follow
Revisado: 01-27-25
very typical when male and female characters are in the story. A female cannot do justice to a male's voice. this needed two narrators .. one male one female. it got very confusing with the same voice for all the men. story took some time to start to jail but once it did it was okay. nothing I'd care to listen to again but it was as I said okay.

Historia
Homicide is always an abomination, but there is something exceptionally disturbing about the victim discovered in a high, lonely place: a corpse with a mouth full of sand, abandoned at a crime scene seemingly devoid of tracks or useful clues. Though it goes against his better judgment, Navajo tribal police lieutenant Joe Leaphorn cannot help but suspect the hand of a supernatural killer.

a little disjointed
Revisado: 01-16-25
I'm not sure it would read anything from this author again as it became quite disjointed about a third of the way through. bringing in Navajo lure and witches etc was not to my preferences. I stuck with it to the end and found the last two chapters tedious to get through. The narrator did an excellent job.

An absolute unorganized impossible story
Revisado: 01-05-25
I stuck it out to the end....only because I felt it just HAD to get better but sadly it didn't and I only felt relief at its end. The plot was helter skelter back and forth...main character talking to his dead wife....unbelievable events both real and drug induced..... family malcontents, isolated characters who brought nothing to the story. Reader did a nice job. I guess I'll just not venture into another Lashner novel. Definitely not for me.....but others have obviously enjoyed it......

Excellent story but dragged out
Revisado: 12-12-24
I never once lost interest in listening to this novel, but there were times when I wanted to skim ahead because of the 'sameness', but didn't. An interesting tale of mob world and the women in power behind the men in power. Ver interesting.....but as I said....dragged out. Narrators were excellent.

Enjoyed this book for a variety of reasons
Revisado: 11-22-24
I will look forward to more of the Carly Moore series....especially as she still needs to deal with her father and ex fiancé. This novel had all the right contents and it was performed flawlessly by Shannon McManus. Just enough characters to keep you wondering who the good were from the bad...... Very enjoyable.
