Historia
Welcome to 1990s Norway. White picket fences run in neat rows, and Christian conservatism runs deep. But as the Artist considers her work, things start stirring themselves up. In a corner of Oslo, a coven of witches begin cooking up some curses. A time-traveling Edvard Munch arrives in town to join a death-metal band, closely pursued by the teenaged subject of his painting Puberty, who has murder on her mind. Meanwhile, out deep in the forest, a group of school girls get very lost and things get very strange. And awful things happen in aspic.

Historia
You may "know" Jenny Slate from her Netflix special, Stage Fright, as the creator of Marcel the Shell, or as the star of Obvious Child. But you don't really know Jenny Slate until you get bonked on the head by her absolutely singular writing style. To see the world through Jenny's eyes is to see it as though for the first time, shimmering with strangeness and possibility.

A most delightful listening experience!
Revisado: 07-29-23
This memoir is really a creative, tongue-in-cheek, manifesto on many of the things Jenny Slate values in life. For me, in this memoir, Ms. Slate comes across as a beautiful person. I could write paragraphs more of sincere compliments, but I'll refrain and simply say get this book and see for yourself why so many people have enjoyed it.

Historia
In this fascinating document, one of Japan's best known - and controversial - writers created what might be termed a new literary form. It is new because it combines elements of many existing types of writing, yet in the end, fits into none of them. The road Mishima took to salvation is a highly personal one. Yet here, ultimately, one detects the unmistakable tones of a self transcending the particular and attaining to a poetic vision of the universal.

Historia
Golden Globe nominee Scarlett Johansson ( Lost in Translation, Girl with a Pearl Earring) brings a palpable sense of joy and exuberance to her performance of Lewis Carroll's enduring classic Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The young and imaginative Alice grows weary of her storybook, one "without pictures or conversations", and follows a hasty hare underground - to come face to face with a host of strange and fantastic characters.

Historia
We treat the body as an afterthought, until it no longer can be. Until the pain or the pleasure is too great. Sinéad Gleeson's life has been marked by terrible illness, including leukemia and debilitating arthritis. As a child, she bathed in the springs of Lourdes, ever hopeful that her body would cooperate, ever looking forward to the day when she could take her body for granted. But just as she turns inward to explore her own pain, and then the marvel of recovery, and then the arrival of her greatest joys—falling in love, becoming a mother—she turns her gaze outward.

This is one of the most intellectually imaginative and daring and emotionally impactful book of essays I've ever read. No wonder it was a bestseller in Ireland. I'll re-listen to this audiobook many times in my lifetime. It is that good.

Like millions of women, Eve Ensler has been waiting much of her lifetime for an apology. Sexually and physically abused by her father, Eve has struggled her whole life from this betrayal, longing for an honest reckoning from a man who is long dead. After years of work as an anti-violence activist, she decided she would wait no longer; an apology could be imagined, by her, for her, to her.

Unlike any audiobook I've read before!
Revisado: 04-07-20
I answered a question on Twitter from Goodreads that asked to describe the book you're currently reading in three words. I wrote: intense, harrowing, and lyrical. I think that adequately sums up my experience of listening to this audiobook. It's a monologue told from the point of view of Eve Ensler's father, who sexually and physically abused her. The narration in this audiobook is just so emotionally complex and riveting. I listened engrossed from beginning to end. An added bonus is the interview with Ensler at the end of the audiobook, in which Ensler gives insight into the creative process that went into writing the book. I'm so glad I listened to the audiobook, and would highly recommend that anyone else do the same. I must say, however, that certain parts of the book were difficult to listen to as they contain graphic, if not imaginative, depictions of sexual child abuse. I image it must have been particularly difficult for Ensler to write these passages. Be that as it may, because I so thoroughly enjoyed this book, I'm definitely going to read Ensler's other works, including her nonfiction.
