Great Story, Not my Fav Narration
Revisado: 02-28-25
I thought the story was great but had just read “A Girl Called Samson” by the same author right before and that was a 10/10 for me, so it was a tough act to follow. I thought this story was well written but didn’t love it as much as Samson, and also felt like the narrators weren’t incredible….just ok. Definitely worth a read if you’re interested in the time period, however.

The best book on WWII I have ever read (and I’ve read a lot!) I felt like the narrator embodied the characters’ emotions in an incredible way. The writing was top notch and I loved the ending and epilogue. Loved that it was a true story too!!!

Historia
The year is 1901, and the hustle and bustle of the holidays is descending on New York's Fifth Avenue. For the first time in her privileged life, Adelaide Forsythe couldn’t be happier about the prospect of a quiet Christmas. That’s not to say her transition from Missto Mrs. has been without challenge. Though she doesn’t regret marrying for love instead of wealth, she feels woefully unprepared to run her own household. Then, on the first Sunday of Advent, winter winds bring surprising change, first through a young orphan boy and then a seasoned housekeeper who seems too good to be true.

The story was well developed and believable. It was not a one week Christmas romance like so many stories, but a slow burn. Favorite “Christmas” book I’ve read by far. So well done!!!

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Historia
Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

Dynamic Characters, Beautiful Imagery!
Revisado: 01-16-24
Overall I loved this story but my opinion may have been a little tainted by watching the movie on Netflix first. I generally have a rule for myself that I must read the book before seeing the movie but I bent the rules for this one. I LOVED the movie! I loved the book too, in different ways. I absolutely loved the imagery and the way the author wrote in a smooth river of words that ebbed and flowed like breathing. The imagery lended itself to the fact that the main character, Marie, is blind…which made perfect sense for the story to be so rich in word choice. I felt it helped to embody the character of Marie, since she could not see and had to “picture” things in other ways. The character development was so rich and strong it felt like I knew the characters personally. I felt the audiobook reader did not have as much diversity in switching between characters as I prefer. But the story was so strong that I still enjoyed listening and would definitely recommend!

Historia
Against all odds, three Slovakian sisters have survived years of imprisonment in the most notorious death camp in Nazi Germany: Auschwitz. Livia, Magda, and Cibi have clung together, nearly died from starvation and overwork, and the brutal whims of the guards in this place of horror. But now, the allies are closing in and the sisters have one last hurdle to face: the death march from Auschwitz, as the Nazis try to erase any evidence of the prisoners held there. Due to a last minute stroke of luck, the three of them are able to escape formation and hide in the woods for days.

Full circle
Revisado: 11-23-23
I’ve read many, many WWII books. This one now ranks in my top favorites. I love that it’s based on a true story and is told in a way that has strong character development, making the plot both interesting and believable. My favorite part, without giving too much away is that the book comes full circle. Many WWII books I have read end when the War is over. This one doesn’t…that’s all I’ll say. I was engaged until the last second. Must read for yourself!! Incredibly told with great insight, skill and emotion.

Revisado: 11-11-23
Such a good storyline! It’s always a toss up on prequels but I feel like this one was well done-kept me constantly thinking and making connections, having read the other books that “come after” this one. I wish the ending was better developed but overall I really loved it! Narrator was pretty good-I didn’t love him at first but then grew to really like his voice and the way he told the story. Excited for the movie coming out soon!!

With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Historia
Let's face it: being single in today's culture as a woman of faith can be a struggle fest. But it doesn't have to be. With real talk and straight wisdom, speaker, podcaster, and founder of The Refined Woman Kat Harris says it's time for a new conversation about singleness, sex, and desire. Growing up at the height of the purity movement, Kat knew this much: Good Christians don't have sex until marriage. But approaching 30 and thrust into the New York City dating scene, she found a set of rules was not a compelling enough reason to keep her clothes on.

Amazing!
Revisado: 04-30-21
It’s hard to put it all into words, but I feel like I could have written many of these chapters myself. Meaning I completely relate to and have felt many of the ways Kat has felt. I’ve asked a lot of the same questions and at 37, am really just discovering many of the lies and fear that have held me back from relationships without my knowledge. This audiobook, read by the author is engaging, encouraging, affirming and thought provoking. It was exactly what I needed at this point in time, as I have been on a journey of discovering what she talks about in the book over the past few years. I love her honesty and bravery in saying the things others have not been able to say. Women from the purity movement need to read this book so they can move on with their lives and fully embrace all that God has. Amazing! Thank you, Kat!!
