Historia
People say Beartown is finished. A tiny community nestled deep in the forest, it is slowly losing ground to the ever encroaching trees. But down by the lake stands an old ice rink, built generations ago by the working men who founded this town. And in that ice rink is the reason people in Beartown believe tomorrow will be better than today. Their junior ice hockey team is about to compete in the national semifinals, and they actually have a shot at winning.

Historia
In a small Southern town where loyalty to family and to "your people" carries the weight of a sacred oath, defying those unspoken rules can be a deadly proposition. After 15 years of growing up in the Ozark hills with his widowed mother, high-school freshman Boady Sanden is beyond ready to move on. He dreams of glass towers and cityscapes, driven by his desire to be anywhere other than Jessup, Missouri. The new kid at St. Ignatius High School, if he isn't being pushed around, he is being completely ignored.

Great listen

A little like listening to To Kill a Mockingbird. The narrator was perfect and I loved the simple character of Body. It was slow-paced which gave you time to enjoy the characters and the story. The story of the giving neighbor was wonderful and heartbreaking. One of my favorite audible books.

Historia
Ridley Jones is being careful about where she steps and trying to get on with her life when a seemingly mundane act–picking up a few envelopes of prints at a photo lab–puts her at the nexus of a global network of crime. A shadowy figure of a man appears in almost every picture she’s taken in the last year, lurking just far enough away to make identification impossible. Now the FBI is at her door, some serious bad guys are following her every move, and the family she once loved and relied on is more distant than ever.

Even Jenna Lamia can’t help this book!
Revisado: 10-26-20
I love, love, love Jenna Lamia. She has read the absolute best books I’ve ever read - The Shape of Water, The Help, The Secret Life of Bees, Velva Jean Learns to Drive....But even she cannot help this low level, undeveloped, dragging along, boring, run-of-the mill mystery. Returning now.

I should have known-women’s issues!
Revisado: 09-29-20
While I enjoyed the mystery surrounding the kids, I did not enjoy the women’s story (issues) surrounding it. The narration was irritating. I also found the substance abuse issue rather disproportionate. The women seemed not in the least concerned about their kids drinking but the drug used for ADHD sent the mothers and fathers into hysterics. While I don’t approve of abusing prescription drugs, I see adderall help many kids every day (when taken appropriately). I don’t know if this woman had a bad experience with the drug (as anybody can with any drug) but I hope the completely negative light she shed on this medication doesn’t stop moms whose children are truly ADHD and need the medicine to survive in school.

What’s your favorite book? The Shape of Water
Revisado: 08-16-20
Not only does my favorite narrator read it-it is the most beautiful story of the tragedies of being human. It is all about acceptance of differences, forgiving your mistakes, and the healing of the pain that life has thrown your way. A love story, yes - but that’s only a small part. This book is a gift to everyone who is different, and has never been accepted. It’s a gift to people who’ve been hurt and are looking for freedom. It’s a gift to everyone who’s had that aha! Moment- I need to examine my beliefs and maybe change my thinking. It’s simply a gift.

Historia
On an island off the coast of Ireland, guests gather to celebrate two people joining their lives together as one. The groom: handsome and charming, a rising television star. The bride: smart and ambitious, a magazine publisher. It’s a wedding for a magazine or for a celebrity: the designer dress, the remote location, the luxe party favors, the boutique whiskey. The cell phone service may be spotty and the waves may be rough, but every detail has been expertly planned and will be expertly executed.

Okay
Revisado: 08-16-20
I agree with Reece’s description of the book-a very old-fashioned mystery. There are so many suspects regarding who the murderer was; however, it didn’t “keep me guessing”. I really wasn’t worried-I knew it would be revealed. I actually stopped listening to this and listened to another book for the second time and then went back. Very light mystery. Had to work to stay interested.

Historia
All is well until the Whitmans - an apparently traditional family with new money and a secretly troubled teenaged daughter - raze the house and trees next door to build themselves a showplace. With little in common except a property line, these two very different families quickly find themselves at odds: First, over an historic oak tree in Valerie's yard, and soon after, the blossoming romance between their two teenagers.

Too much
Revisado: 04-21-20
While I agree with critics that the author tackles timely social issues, I feel like she tried to tackle too many in one sitting. The story was just implausible to me. It is an extremely depressing book with no good outcomes. There was just nothing enjoyable about this book. Maybe that was her point.

A little better than most beach reads
Revisado: 08-16-18
I found the story interesting although I got a little confused with the going back and forth with the time span. I enjoyed the 1950’s setting because it reminded me of my grandparents.
The story had a decent plot that I enjoyed more than your average women’s issues/beach read.
