Solid story

I initially started this story because I was intrigued by the idea of a male romance author. I thoroughly enjoyed how strong both characters’ personality were and how they each had to be compromise to find true happiness. Also, the story within a story was a fun concept. By the end, I absolutely would’ve read Noah’s book!

Fantastic story telling
Revisado: 02-22-24
I really enjoyed this story, particularly the parallel storylines bouncing back and forth between Morgan and his militia men and Tarleton and his dragoons. You can feel the tension as they get closer and closer to Cow pens. The narrator does a fantastic job of narrating the battle and the aftermath. Great listen that I've listened to multiple times. Highly recommend.

Fantastic book
Revisado: 02-22-24
I love Seth's story so much. He carries the weight of the whole world and I was very curious to see how Dianne was going to show us the Immortal world from his point of view. She did better than I could've hoped for. Seth is still as powerful as he was in all the books leading up to this, the mystery is just as complex, and I loved the climax and all the little reveals we've been waiting for all series. Out of all of the books, this is the one I re-listen to the most often. And I cannot rave enough about Kirsten Potter. She does such an amazing job. Sometimes, female narrators narrating male voices can go really, reaaaally wrong, particularly in romances where they're supposed to sound "sexy". But she NAILS it, accents and all. Highly recommend!

The British Legion was one of the most remarkable regiments, not only of the American Revolution, but of any war. A corps made up of American Loyalists, it saw its first action in New York and then engaged in almost every battle in the Southern colonies. Relying on firsthand accounts - letters, diaries, and journals - War at Saber Point: Banastre Tarleton and the British Legion is the enthralling story of those forgotten Americans and the young Englishman who led them.

This groundbreaking audiobook offers a new analysis of the British Army during the "American rebellion" at both operational and tactical levels. Presenting fresh insights into the speed of British tactical movements, Spring discloses how the system for training the army prior to 1775 was overhauled and adapted to the peculiar conditions confronting it in North America.

The narration kills the story
Revisado: 02-22-24
The narration is awful. The editing left outtakes in the recording. You sometimes hear the same lines two or three times in a row, there's coughing and throat clearing, and when it's not riddled poor editing, it sounds like the narrator is bored with the material himself. Very disappointing.

Historia
The massive offensives on the Eastern Front during 1915 are too often overshadowed by the events in Western Europe, but the scale and ferocity of the clashes between Imperial Germany, Hapsburg Austria-Hungary, and Tsarist Russia were greater than anything seen on the Western Front and ultimately as important to the final outcome of the war. Now, with the work of internationally renowned Eastern Front expert Prit Buttar, this fascinating story of the unknown side of the First World War is finally being told.

Another excellent entry
Revisado: 02-22-24
This volume continues the story of the Eastern front after the combatants on both sides begin to realize that this war won't be over by Christmas and they're in it for the long haul. The Cult of the Offensive continues to cost tens of thousands of lives per week as the leaders refuse to adapt and evolve their war tactics. It's very interesting to hear about the battles from both sides, hear excerpts of the correspondence that's being passed as they plan, the political maneuvering behind the scenes, and bits of memoirs from those who were lucky enough to survive. A very good telling!

Historia
The fighting that raged in the East during the First World War was every bit as fierce as that on the Western Front, but the titanic clashes between three towering empires - Russia, Austro-Hungary, and Germany - remains a comparatively unknown facet of the Great War. With the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the war in 2014, Collision of Empires is a timely expose of the bitter fighting on this forgotten front - a clash that would ultimately change the face of Europe forever.

Very thorough history that is still entertaining!
Revisado: 02-22-24
I very much enjoyed this book. It was fascinating to hear excerpts from diaries and memoirs in which the combatants were so certain of their rightness and so assured of victory, all the while knowing with historical hindsight that they couldn't be more wrong and that they were signing the death warrants of their empires and some of their own lives. I particularly liked the section that delved into the response to the Sarajevo assassination and how it was more or less used permit to wage the war they'd desperately wanted for years and listening to how naively glib they were about how dangerous and lengthy this war would be. It was a fascinating peek into the Cult of the Offensive and the Imperialist mindset. Highly recommended for any WWI buffs like me who enjoy being able to see the story from the POV of the combatants that ultimately lost.

Historia
The most common triggers for homicide are fear, rage, revenge, money, lust, and, more rarely, sheer madness. This isn’t an exact science, of course. Any given murder can have multiple triggers. Sex and revenge seem to be common partners in crime. This book offers my memories of homicide cases that I investigated or oversaw. In each case, I examine the trigger that led to death. I chose this theme for the book because even though the why of a murder case may not be critical in an investigation, it can sometimes lead us to the killer.

Thankfully, 90% of the stories were new material to me. Kenda’s presentation was great as usual. Well worth the credit and the listening time!

Good story, weak narration
Revisado: 10-12-22
I enjoyed the story enough that I bought the audible add on so I could experience it again through the narration. Samantha Cook is different narrator than the narrator for Wright's other series Mercury Pack and Phoenix and it definitely is a step down in quality. Cook has a high pitched monotone with all of her narration droning together in one big run on. It's hard to tell when internal thought dialogue switches to spoken dialogue because it all sounds the same. Her male characters sound pubescent and their voices are indistinguishable from each other when there's more than one in the same conversation. Her female characters never seem to be voiced in the correct emotional tone for the scene being narrated. It makes for some very odd and confusing fight scenes and sex scenes. I would not purchase another story narrated by Samantha Cook.

Lieutenant Saru is a Kelpien, a member of a prey species born on a world overrun by monstrous predators...and a being who very intimately understands the nature of fear. Challenged on all sides, he is determined to surpass his origins and succeed as a Starfleet officer aboard the U.S.S. Shenzhou. But when Saru breaks protocol in order to prove himself to his crewmates, what begins as a vital rescue mission to save a vessel in distress soon escalates out of control. Forced into a command role he may not be ready for, Saru is caught between his duty and two conflicting agendas.

A very good expansion on Saru
Revisado: 01-29-22
Initially I wasn't sure I wanted a story about Saru. Afterall, one of the most famous quotes of Star Trek is "Be bold. Be brave. Be courageous" and Saru as Kelpien is known for his fear. But I was intrigued by the idea of seeing how he balanced his fear with his Starfleet duties. And I'm glad I took a chance on this. It basically is an intriguing study in what it means to be brave, when is fear a helpful thing and when is it a hindrance, and what does it mean to be true to oneself. This story is about Saru learning to stop asking "What would Captain Georgiou do?" or "What would Lt Burnham do?" and finally say "Here are my strengths. Here are my weakness. Here is how I use them to live up to the Starfleet standard." Very good character study that definitely helps you understand the Commander we meet in season 1.
James Swallow does a very good job of creating a story that feels well-integrated into the canon we know and love. He incorporates some TOS aliens with some new ones and creates a tense and exciting First Contact scenario. Robert Petkoff does a good job of narrating overall, although a few of his voice characterization choices were a little grating and pulled me out of the story.
