Historia
Jeannette Walls grew up with parents whose ideals and stubborn nonconformity were both their curse and their salvation. Rex and Rose Mary Walls had four children. In the beginning, they lived like nomads, moving among Southwest desert towns, camping in the mountains. Rex was a charismatic, brilliant man who, when sober, captured his children's imagination. Rose Mary painted and wrote and couldn't stand the responsibility of providing for her family; she called herself an "excitement addict."

Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

17 hours changed me
Revisado: 10-09-21
I am no history buff and maybe naive - this book taught me about the struggles during the war That I thought I knew but the story brought it to life in a weird way, an appreciation really. This book is amazing, well written and the characters…❤️. You will get lost in this book as I did - hang in there in the beginning, I almost didn’t want to keep going but I’m glad I stuck with it.

Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

I threw out my dream dictionaries
Revisado: 02-05-19
Wow, so much to take in on this book, I can't imagine reading it vs. listening to it, but boy is this jammed pack. I wouldn't say this is for everyone, you can really get lost quickly with all the jargon...certainly not a test of intelligence but how much you can absorb as an auditory learner. I will keep plugging away at this book but I'm not sure I will finish it.

Historia
From evolution to the epidural and beyond, Tina Cassidy presents an intelligent, enlightening, and impeccably researched cultural history of how and why we're born the way we are. Women have been giving birth for millennia, but that's about the only constant in the final stage of the great process that is human reproduction. Why is it that every culture and generation seems to have its own ideas about the best way to give birth?

We've come so far, but not far enough
Revisado: 02-05-19
As a birth worker, I have studied the history of birth and still found the book fascinating. I'm still just amazed at what ai jotted down in my brain years ago, "You just CANNOT show up for your birth" and this really just drives it home for me. If you are in a role to support your daughter, sister, cousin, friend, hired to support a birthing person, you MUST read/listen in to this book. The hard part is really just how far we've gotten away from trusting our bodies to birth as they should and the results of this.

Historia
Drawing on dozens of intimate audio interviews with families from all across the country, award-winning psychologist and writer Andrew Solomon redefines what it means to be an “ideal family” in America today. Solomon observes that America, led in large part by the women’s, civil rights, and gay rights movements, has undergone a radical social shift in the last few decades. Although the structure of family has changed, economic and legal structures lag behind and need to adapt to accommodate this explosive new reality.

Eye opening

I absolutely loved listening to this book. As a person who supports MANY families in their journey to parenthood, I didn't realize how many different family dynamics existed and how many ARE NOT viewed as a family based by people and places where it can count. The way this book is set up makes it feel like you are in the room learning, listening and observing, which I just loved. When it was over, I was SO bummed because I wanted to just keeping listening. Wonderful job and a big thanks for all who shared their journey. <3
