A Different Perspective
Revisado: 07-19-23
I know that this review is several years past the books prime, however, people are always checking review and it seemed beneficial to add a comment for anyone considering this series that might be new to Audible.
No one wants their closet skeletons to be put on display and visiting one's past is often uncomfortable. There is not a person alive that has not made errors in judgement in their youth, the difference is by matters of degree of severity and how impactful those decisions are on the adult person you become.
Kaylin's flight from the Fife of Nightshade to the Fife of Barren is the chapter in her life where Kaylin decides what type of adult she wants to be. The story is full of ugliness, foul language, and horrific acts of violence done by a child. However, the other reviews that harp on the level of dismay and disgust that the story depicts may not fully appreciate that this is a rite of passage that defines Kaylin.
The writing is excellent, the narration is perfect, the story is gritty, sad, violent, and the perfect chapter for this part of Kaylin's story. It does contain a good bit of foul language, but I believe that the author's use of the violence and language is fitting for this portion of the story related to Kaylin. The background information reveled about Kaylin's journey, is well worth learning.

Diamond in the rough
Revisado: 02-01-19
I was browsing for something to read, and came across this gem in the discount bin. I bought it without a lot of review and figured it was worth the $2 price tag. I tried and tried to read it and kept getting interrupted and couldn't develop a connection with the Aralorn character and put the book back on the shelf. Several years later, I saw the audible version available on CD at a deeply discounted price, and bought it. After the authors introduction that it "wasn't her best work", I was ready to put it away again. But having purchased it twice, decided to solider through to the end. As it turns out, I love the characters, in spite of the under developed writing, and have listened to this story many times. The interplay between Aralorn and Wolf is very dynamic and the tried and true story of good overcoming evil is well done. A great read for anyone wanting a light story to wile away a few hours.

Magically Riveting
Revisado: 02-01-19
My first Patricia Briggs book was Masque, the revised second release, and the author made a point to warn readers that it was not her best work. I listened to the story prepared to be disappointed, but found myself drawn into the story and didn't mind the roughness of the writing. When I saw that Wolfsbane was available, I couldn't wait to rediscover Wolf and Aralorn. Patricia Briggs expanded the relationship of Aralorn and Wolf to include her family and draw the wary reader into the story so smoothly that any flaws in writing technique was overlooked by the characters and actions of this enchanting story. Well worth the time to read.

Butler's final novel, is the story of a young amnesiac girl whose inhuman needs and abilities lead her to a startling conclusion: she is in fact a genetically modified 53-year-old vampire. Forced to discover what she can about her stolen former life, she must learn who wanted to destroy her and those she cares for and how she can save herself.

Uniquely Fascinating
Revisado: 02-01-19
Truly one of the most amazing stories I have ever read, and I read/listen a lot. The reader's performance accurately portrays the correct emotion and intensity that the story requires. Fascinating characters, story line and delivery. Highly recommend this story of discovery.
