I resonated with the topic of overcoming the ego but unfortunately they don’t quite get into methods of doing so.

What did you love best about The Modern Scholar?
The history of the Romans is nicely summarized in this audiobook. You will learn facts about the Romans you may not have known such as: The Colosseum was built next to a Colossal statue of emperor Nero [that was destroyed], hence giving it its name. A wonderful listen, and I plan on hearing it many times over.

Would you listen to Freedom from the Known again? Why?
This audiobook is tough to follow at first because the ideas are very abstract. But once you begin to unwind yourself in it, the real magic unfolds. It is very interesting and definitely a worthwhile listen. =]

If you could sum up The Modern Scholar in three words, what would they be?
I love Thucydides
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Modern Scholar?
The narrator, professor Kaplan, begins his analysis of political science with the ancient Greeks and leads up to modern Game theory. It between, you take a trip through many of the great authors that deal with the subject of political science such as: Machiavelli, Rousseau, John Locke, et cetera. This is one of my favorite audio books, and I plan to listen to it many more times.

Historia
Plato's Allegory of the Cave is what many believe to be the foundation of Western Philosophy. It addresses what is visible and invisible, seen and observed versus intuited and imagined, and what is public versus private and just versus unjust. It also concerns the meaning and importance of education, the state of the soul, the conflict between truth and beauty, animal urges versus higher aspirations, knowledge versus ignorance, and on and on.

Is there anything you would change about this book?
The narrator is not very engaging, but the allegory pulls its own weight. If you like the allegory as much as I do, than you can deal with the narration.

Great principles
Revisado: 12-21-09
This is a book that will help you get into a state of mind for earning large sums of money. However you must take action, and grab the bull by the horns if you expect any of them to work. Like they say "old habits die hard". the hardest part is always replacing habits that have been nurtured for a long time. If you are willing to take action and apply new behaviors then this book is for you.

Very practical
Revisado: 12-18-09
This book is very helpful to those who wish to have a fundamental lesson in life portrayed. You will be able to see the contrast between acting proactively and reactively while in search of something we all desire: happyness. Some of lifes lessons can never be learnt too thoroughly, and therefore can never be said too often. I see in this book the application of many tools that can lead one to happyness and also into despair. try to examine your behaviors and see which character from the story you reflect.
