Beware Undisclosed Christian Proselytizing
Revisado: 01-03-24
The fact that this book is nothing but an extremely manipulative attempt at Christian proselytizing disguised as what could have been a wonderful story about a pair of brave everyday heroines in WWII England. The deception doesn’t become apparent until well into the book. I feel like I was duped and quite stupid for finishing it. Audible should have labeled this Christian lit. The ending was indeed lame…typical fairy tale resolution.

Historia
William Waters grew up in a house silenced by tragedy, where his parents could hardly bear to look at him, much less love him—so when he meets the spirited and ambitious Julia Padavano in his freshman year of college, it’s as if the world has lit up around him. With Julia comes her family, as she and her three sisters are inseparable: Sylvie, the family’s dreamer, is happiest with her nose in a book; Cecelia is a free-spirited artist; and Emeline patiently takes care of them all.

I loved it this book…
Revisado: 05-30-23
I loved this book because, rather than being depressing, I found it to be a beautiful story of the joys and sufferings that all families/human beings experience—each in their own imperfect way. And the incredible love with which they all stumbled through life’s challenges was, to me, inspirational, if not aspirational.

Thank you, Zain Asher for sharing the story of your family’s incredibly compelling journey through deep loss to extraordinary triumph! I could not stop reading from the first sentence to the last! Your telling of your parents beautiful love story and your mother’s exceptional strength and determination to uplift her children after the tragic loss of their father is truly awe-inspiring. I’m so grateful to her and to your entire family for allowing their story to be shared with the world!

Historia
Boston, 1662. Mary Deerfield is 24 years old. Her skin is porcelain, her eyes delft blue, and in England she might have had many suitors. But here in the New World, amid this community of saints, Mary is the second wife of Thomas Deerfield, a man as cruel as he is powerful. When Thomas, prone to drunken rage, drives a three-tined fork into the back of Mary's hand, she resolves that she must divorce him to save her life.

Ruinous narration!
Revisado: 05-13-21
Why was this book allowed to be released by Audible with such terrible narration? I love the book but after nine chapters can’t bear to listen to another second! I am returning it for a written version. I’m sure she’s a lovely human being but she should never narrate another book without serious coaching!

So beautifully written and so incredibly and powerfully relevant to what we’re living through in the US right now.
