Historia
Hello, my name is William Thorne. I am the Scion of Amber Light, and this is my story. Well, not my story exactly, more my compendium of the stories told to me by others. In this audio, you will here tales my Da told me of his early adventures with Mum, how he nearly got himself killed numerous times, and that's just because he upset Mum. Ha, I jest, well, mostly. It's never wise to make Mum angry. No one likes her when she's angry. She's a Scot, which means she's angry more times than not. Still, she loves her friends well, and Da even better.

Great Narrations...
Revisado: 01-17-25
...OK stories. I like the concept of having a compilation of bedtime stories William collected to give to his parents as a good buy gift. The issue is had was that the stories themselves felted rushed and at time out of balance. for instance, the vampire story spent more time worring out the woes of time travel. and very little on the main reason for the travel. I understand that these were meant to be short recollections from a single source. so details might have been vague, but from listeners perspective, the details were too choppy.
Still, enjoyed the extra time in this universe.

An interesting introspective to a citizen detective
Revisado: 11-15-24
I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. It came recommended by Amazon's algorithms and the summary was interesting enough to give it a go, and glad I did.
I understand the author has been in the news recently for inappropriate behavior, and I will not excuse that. That aside. The book covers the backstory and some of the major solves this citizen detective has assisted with, and that is something worth highlighting and praising. It's a strange hobby to say the least, solving cold cases, but as the author puts its at the end of the book, it's the least we can do as citizens of this society we live in.
I have no issues recommending this book to others. It's an interesting story of what's been driving one of the many citizen detectives out there.

Historia
It’s been 120 years since the 50 or so worldships containing the few million survivors of the human species set off after the planet Earth was destroyed by a meteor. On the Worldship Humility, Sam, a 30-year-old Airlock Operative, is bored. Living in space should be exciting and full of adventure, except it isn’t, and he fills his time hacking 3-D movie posters and holographic adverts outside the stores in the retail zone. Petty thief Yasmine Emile Dufont is also from the WS Humility, but she is not bored....

occasionally funny
Revisado: 10-31-24
...but ultimately a bit of a let down. This book came recommended by our algorithm overlords, and I added it to the list for one reason or another. I found myself wanting something different and Worldship Humility was it. Right off the bat, the book was OK. Not the best Sci-Fi book I read this year, but there were several times in which interactions between characters in the cafe had me laughing at the absurdity. I did not expect the humor in the book, and frankly, without it, there would not have been much to this story. This is less Sci-Fi and more of a heist book; someone made that observation in the comments section and I agreed.
That's it. That's all this book had to offer. Funny/witty banter between characters and a "heist" ala Monty Python style.
Best thing about the book was the narrator. he did an excellent job with the character voices and personalities.
Sadly, narrator aside, I do not think I will be continuing the series.

Historia
A killer walks among the rich and powerful. Who can the Magebreakers trust? Someone is killing the non-magical members of Senate houses - those who might one day be named Protector of the Realm. And that same someone is leaving behind messages for the Magebreakers beside symbols of the shadowy organization known as the Knights of the Emperor. Under suspicion from the constabulary, Tane and Kadka are drawn into the investigation to prove their innocence. What they find is that Audish politics are as dangerous as any Porthaven back alley.

another fun story
Revisado: 01-11-24
Another fun tale read by Travis Baldree. There was a good balance between suspense and action that moved the story forward. There were a few bits that dragged on, like when Kadka is literally dragged through the sewers, of Tane dragged himself to another estate via train, but these scenes were minor and quickly went back to something interesting.
My only concern moving forward is the change in narrators. Travis has done an excellent job, and I've already seen the comments to what's coming next. That said. Magebreaker series has been entertaining this far, maybe it won't be so bad.

Historia
In a world of elves and dwarves and sprites and mages, Tane Carver is a human with no gift but his wits. Which, to be fair, did get him into the world's most prestigious university of magical technology. For a while. Until his lack of magic was discovered. And then it all came crashing down. But when a student is murdered on campus behind unbreakable wards, Tane gets a second chance. Solving an impossible crime should be easy for the man who fooled the university's best mages for years. Except he's not counting on the head constable being an old flame who isn't so fond of him anymore.

Fun story
Revisado: 01-09-24
Fantasy is not my immediate go to these days, but I needed a break from sci-fi after a couple bad misadventures. this story delivered in the distraction I was looking for, mostly due to the Travis, the narrator. he did an excellent job providing the right amount of zeal to the story, and distinctive voices to the characters. not often you find a voice actor that can generator vocal ranges to ditinish characters of the fae, especially the higher pitched ones. well done sir.

Another good set of stories
Revisado: 12-21-22
Books 5-8 in the prequel, and they were enjoyable for the most part. There isn't a whole lot that happens in this set. Brad gets in and out of trouble, Mort's still vaporizing wizard fodder, and Chuck/Becky are along for the ride.
Curious to see how long Morin will keep their series going, know full well where it will eventually end up.

it's not an audiobook
Revisado: 08-10-22
I wasn't sure what to expect from this Audible original. I downloaded it a while back and it's been sitting in my queue ever since. I found myself in between books recently and wanted a quick distraction. impact Winter definitely did just that.
This is not an audiobook. it's more of an old timey radio show, with quick dialogue, sound effects and music scores.
The story itself is not original, not really, but the voice actors did an excellent job portraying their characters and flexing their vocal muscle to make the listener feel their joy, sadness, etc.
As for a story review, others have already done so. As for me, I enjoyed the overall experience and have since recommended it to others who I thought, might also enjoy it.

Black Ocean Prequel
Revisado: 04-23-22
Leave the man alone for a while, and JS Morning comes out with another set of books to explore the Black Ocean universe, and it's a prequel too. Looking forward seeing where this goes, I've enjoyed all of the other books in the Universe.
That said, if Morin was going to write a prequel, couldn't he have gone to the days of Merlin. I think it would be a hoot to read a fantasy series about the "true" nights of the round table and the shenanigans they got themselves into, and how Merlin had to step in to save the day. Series can skip forward to various other wizards in the Black Ocean history, to include the first wizard to Astral Drop.
Just a thought from the peanut gallery.

not sure what's going on
Revisado: 03-31-22
I'm not sure what's going on here. I really liked the games.over the years, and enjoyed the Netflix series. so, I figured if both A & B are good, then C must be as well. that hasn't been the case so far. these aren't huge books, but I'm finding them difficult to get through them. I'm committed to complete the series, but I might have to walk away from it for a bit..
