Historia
It used to be that Belly counted the days until summer, until she was back at Cousins Beach with Conrad and Jeremiah. But not this year. Not after Susannah got sick again and Conrad stopped caring. Everything that was right and good has fallen apart, leaving Belly wishing summer would never come. But when Jeremiah calls saying Conrad has disappeared, Belly knows what she must do to make things right again. And it can only happen back at the beach house, the three of them together, the way things used to be.

A failed sequel
Revisado: 12-31-24
I really enjoyed the first book, but this sequel is a complete failure of imagination. There are fewer characters, and even still they gain no added depth or emotional development. The story is boring and sluggish, and we’re left with only one plot line (which begins to feel eerily incestuous rather than exciting). This is what happens when a publisher hastily forces a good book into a series.

Historia
Belly measures her life in summers. Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August. Winters are simply a time to count the weeks until the next summer, a place away from the beach house, away from Susannah, and most importantly, away from Jeremiah and Conrad. They are the boys that Belly has known since her very first summer—they have been her brother figures, her crushes, and everything in between. But one summer, one wonderful and terrible summer, the more everything changes, the more it all ends up just the way it should have been all along.

Exceptional Narrator
Revisado: 12-29-24
This book features exceptional narration. The story itself is memorable and fast-paced, if lackluster in the end.

Historia
When Princess Atalanta is born, a daughter rather than the son her parents hoped for, she is left on a mountainside to die. But even then, she is a survivor. Raised by a mother bear under the protective eye of the goddess Artemis, Atalanta grows up wild and free, with just one condition: if she marries, Artemis warns, it will be her undoing. Although she loves her beautiful forest home, Atalanta yearns for adventure. When Artemis offers her the chance to fight in her name alongside the Argonauts, the fiercest band of warriors the world has ever seen, Atalanta seizes it.

Poor Writing All Around
Revisado: 09-21-24
There’s no character or plot development in this story. It presumes an inordinate amount of interest in classical mythology. I have been riveted by many other titles narrated and written by female authors, who are revisiting the classical world, and I’ve loved almost all of them. But I tried many times over multiple months to get into this book, and could not stop feeling bored and irritated, by the way that it’s written.

Thoroughly Bland and Unoriginal
Revisado: 10-28-23
I don’t understand the hype. This was one of the most unmemorable and unoriginal books I’ve read all year. Maybe I needed to be on a beach with a glass of rose in one hand to enjoy it.

Meandering- no plot, mediocre anecdotes
Revisado: 06-08-23
This is a meandering narrative. The author tries to weave together several of the most influential bands of the era, but what emerges is haphazard and uncompelling. A sprinkling of anecdotes occurre just frequently-enough to keep the read from being miserable.

Historia
In 2009, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band performed at the Super Bowl's halftime show. The experience was so exhilarating that Bruce decided to write about it. That's how this extraordinary autobiography began. Over the past seven years, Bruce Springsteen has privately devoted himself to writing the story of his life, bringing to this audio the same honesty, humor, and originality found in his songs.

No music; too much navel gazing
Revisado: 05-16-23
This is the most disappointing autobiography I’ve read. Every other musician out there intersperses their stories with music, but this audiobook is just Bruce reading (often uninspiringly) about minutiae of his own life. Don’t get me wrong — There is plenty to like if you can slog through hours and hours of non-story narrative. But if you’re looking for the kind of immersive and entertaining story-telling that made Springsteen such a legend, his Broadway musical is an immensely better listen.

An encounter with 18-year-old Jesus changes everything.

Gossip Without Substance
Revisado: 01-03-23
This is a witty and humorous Podcast, but it lacks substance. Although they choose interesting topics, they throw around the word “cult” with recklessness and abandon. Listen for yourself (and pay attention to how frequently they contradict themselves within each episode). The result amounts to less news and analysis than you’d get, for example, from Entertainment Tonight.

Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.
