Dark and honest
Revisado: 02-12-23
This is a dark and honest snapshot of a family of addicts. Many listeners will find it too morbid for entertainment, but it was well edited (from the original text) and flawlessly performed.

All Things Left Wild is a well written and paced story. The narrator is excellent with a beautiful, deep timber. He is able to modify his voice and accent to portray a variety of distinct characters seamlessly.

unbelievably suspenseful...
Revisado: 12-23-22
I was on the edge of my seat and could not put this book down. Jess Nahikian's reading was superb as well. The underlying themes in this story are painfully true, and I was left with a haunting ache that echoed from my own girlhood. The Quarry Girls is keenly written and performed.

Historia
When she stumbles across the ad, she’s looking for something else completely. But it seems like too good an opportunity to miss - a live-in nannying post, with a staggeringly generous salary. And when Rowan Caine arrives at Heatherbrae House, she is smitten - by the luxurious “smart” home fitted out with all modern conveniences, by the beautiful Scottish Highlands, and by this picture-perfect family. What she doesn’t know is that she’s stepping into a nightmare - one that will end with a child dead and herself in prison awaiting trial for murder.

It has potential...
Revisado: 05-29-22
The author sets a good pace to move the plot along. The concept of this story is also intriguing.
Unfortunately, the protagonist's juvenile behavior barely warrants the reader's support. She does have a few shining moments of courage but then slips back into a shallow, fearful, adolescent pattern. As a reader, I immediately felt frustrated with this character but continued with the text hoping she would grow into her potential.
I am forever hopeful, though, and will read the second book in this series because I did enjoy the vision of the fantasy world created by this author. I hope to continue to see the development of the tension between good and evil and how easily good can morph into evil (which seems to be a constant thread in this text).

Historia
The year is 1920: Flying in the face of convention, legendary American adventuress Beryl Helliwell never fails to surprise and shock. The last thing her adoring public would expect is that she craves some peace and quiet. The humdrum hamlet of Walmsley Parva in the English countryside seems just the ticket. And, honestly, until America comes to its senses and repeals Prohibition, Beryl has no intention of returning stateside and subjecting herself to bathtub gin.
