Historia
Grace first met Mimi when she blew into their sons’ toddler playgroup like a warm bay breeze that loosened Grace’s tight spaces. Despite differing approaches to life and parenting, the fast friends raised their kids together while cementing a sisterlike bond that neither believed could be broken. But when a string of ill-fated decisions results in a teen party with a tragic outcome for Grace’s son, the friendship is ripped apart and an already-splintered community explodes.

Grace is annoying af
Revisado: 08-25-22
I love Amy McFadden. I love the author and I liked the story, but the character of Grace was so bloody annoying I just wanted to choke her to get her to stop whining. My sympathies to Sam for having to put up with her

I have exactly 5 hours and 10 minutes to get from Boston to New York City or the professional opportunity of a lifetime disappears. My only travel option? The second to last seat on a discount bus. Across from the bathroom. Wearing last night’s clothes (don’t ask). All worth it if I can make it in time.

Great story overall
Revisado: 03-21-22
story was great, narrator was good. My only real issue with this book was the female protagonist. despite the great tragedy she suffered, she is so intensely unlikeable (to me) that I find it difficult to root for her. I stuck with the story, though, and I'm glad I did.

Historia
Maire is a baker with an extraordinary gift: she can infuse her treats with emotions and abilities, which are then passed on to those who eat them. She doesn't know why she can do this and remembers nothing of who she is or where she came from. When marauders raid her town, Maire is captured and sold to the eccentric Allemas, who enslaves her and demands that she produce sinister confections, including a witch's gingerbread cottage, a living cookie boy, and size-altering cakes.

I want more
Revisado: 03-11-22
I absolutely love the worlds that this author creates. This was an excellent story, although a bit hard to follow at times. I would have loved to see this book fleshed out into a series. This narrator is one of the best and I love every book she performs.

Historia
It happened the day of the Moon Festival. It could have been left behind, they all could have moved on with their lives. But secrets have a habit of rising to the surface, especially in small towns. Two couples, four ironclad friendships, the perfect coastal holiday town. With salt-stung houses perched like lifeguards overlooking the shore, Lago Point is the scene of postcards, not crime scenes. Wife and mother Abbi, town cop Blake, schoolteacher Hannah and local doctor Will are caught in their own tangled webs of deceit.

Delivers to the last page
Revisado: 01-09-22
many reviewers stated that the book started slowly and was difficult to understand at first, but I didn't experience that. The references to "the secret", "the Lie", and "the thing that happened" were annoying at first, but as the author consistently revealed more details, my frustration was short-lived. You may think you know what happened, but you definitely don't know what happened. The reveal was terrific.
This narrator was excellent. Her Americanized accent for Hannah was very good.

If I didn't love Jeff Wheeler's work so much...
Revisado: 10-22-21
I would have abandoned this book during the first chapter. I am currently in chapter 12 and it is like slogging through mud.
I appreciate the switch to an Asian narrator for a story that is obviously inspired by that culture, but Ms. Zeller's breathy whisper voice just isn't doing it for me. The character voices are great, but the narration is duuuuulllllll.
I'm used to Jeff Wheeler's series being a bit of a nut where you have to break through the first bit to get to the good parts. I plan on finishing the series, but it's been a struggle so far

first you need to understand Wheeler's books
Revisado: 10-14-21
I'll admit that it starts slow.
Jeff Wheeler's stories are epics, and I didn't realize until I finished Kingfountain after reading Muirwood that they crossover which is fantastic news for a lore geek like me. I suspected that maybe the rest of his series related too, so I started this one and I'm glad I did.
His heroes/heroines are usually orphaned or fostered, and their tales often start when very young. I can guess without even looking that the next book will probably take place several years after the end of this one. Yes, I'll admit that the climax and resolution was a bit weak, but clearly there is a bigger story at play that relies on the foundation of this book and I'm already greedy for more.
Be patient, stick with it

It has been a while since I have last read a book that really made me say "wow!" The story was engaging and fantastic, the world creation was compelling, and the characters were relatable. I will definitely seek out more from this author. narrator Rob Shapiro was absolutely perfect.
