Historia
It’s the summer of ’77 in New York City, and the only thing more unnerving than the scorching heatwave is the rampant murder, leaving washed-up homicide detective Richard Dietrich on edge. When Dietrich investigates a brutal mob hit the brass doesn’t want him to solve, he goes from phoning it in to getting in over his head. Caught up in a mysterious second homicide with an even more perplexing perpetrator, Dietrich starts to second guess his instincts—and his memory—as he searches for answers at the bottom of a bottle.

Commonality
Revisado: 04-18-24
I'm white. I lived in the south so I ate southern food. I still eat southern food. What I heard were common experiences that all women had in the 50s. The difference was the element of race. We are all the same some are black some are white and on and on. Life was hard, is hard. When I listened to this book I felt a closeness to the characters. I knew I would when I chose the book.

Historia
A psychopath is terrorizing Copenhagen. His calling card is a “chestnut man” - a handmade doll made of matchsticks and two chestnuts - which he leaves at each bloody crime scene. Examining the dolls, forensics makes a shocking discovery - a fingerprint belonging to a young girl, a government minister’s daughter who had been kidnapped and murdered a year ago. A tragic coincidence - or something more twisted? To save innocent lives, a pair of detectives must put aside their differences to piece together the Chestnut Man’s gruesome clues.

Characters were easy to identify with
Revisado: 12-04-22
Children view their parents in such an idealistic way. I also looked back on my childhood as being mostly perfect, my family, my neighbors, my everything. The children in the book once taken away from their parents and home experienced faced such ugliness. The book was written in such a way that made me feel like I was right there with the characters experiencing their life. Yes, I would encourage my friends and family to read this sad but realistically written book.

Grace was quite a Narcissist, just did not like her character. I did not like the reason why the letter writer gave to Grace. I was just so lame.

SURPRISE
Revisado: 04-04-22
I loved the book and narration.
The author sure surprised me. I thought that after the trial results, I would stop listening to the book. I was confused to learn that there was another chapter. At that point I was curious about what was going on. I'm really glad I stuck with it. It wasn't a typical ending. I'm going to recommend the book to my friends and family. Thanks for the exciting read.
