Sure, I’ve seen the movie plenty, but I’d never read ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’. I was pleased to learn that the novel is every bit as good as the film! ‘Fred’’s awkward, charmed presence as Holly‘s neighbor, friend & would-be suitor, the zany cast of characters who orbit around planet Holly, even goofy, sweet charismatic Holly herself. Of course, throughout the reading, I firmly pictured Audrey Hepburn & George Peppard as Holly & ‘Fred’, & their casting does not disappoint.
Narration by Michael C Hall is good but not great.
Overall, a lovely afternoon’s listen.

Even though I was 37 & living in Northern California at the time of this attempted robbery & subsequent shoot-out, I had no memory of the incident. I guess so much fun violence has occurred with so much regularity since then that it all (sadly) becomes something of a blur.
In any case, this podcast of The North Hollywood Shoot-Out is a compelling listen. Well-paced, we’ll-edited & we’ll-told. It’s also a refreshing instance of good luck & good behavior on the part of the police, law enforcement & the citizens who got caught up in this nightmare. Nice to listen to a story of challenge & violence in America in which people work together selflessly & with compassion for one another

The Zeta Family is just an all-around good production. Writing by Gretchen Enders is razor-sharp, and the narrative voice actors are all superbly cast. I wasn't sure what to expect from this story, but I ended up being absolutely glued to my headphones. Highly recommend.

‘Slouching towards Bethlehem’ is a collection of stories written by Joan Didion in the 60s. If you know & enjoy her work & ‘voice’ already, then this book will not disappoint. It’s also a good introduction to her writings.

Didion is at her best when she’s ruminating on life in the 1960s, and sharing her takes on Hollywood & California culture This book is an interesting, thought-provoking & largely enjoyable ride through that time period.

Narrator Diane Keaton has a magnificent voice & tone, but I was a little disappointed by her multiple mispronunciations, especially those of several, well-known California city names.

I had great expectations for this book. One reviewer favorably compared it to Paul Beatty's marvelous 'The Sellout', and many others gushed about its incisive wit and razor-sharp satire. Sadly, I have a different take.
I really wanted to like this book. I loved 'The Sellout', as well as 'The Wolf of Wall Street', and I was hoping 'Black Buck' would follow in those works' masterful footsteps. It didn't. Literally none of the characters felt believable nor relatable--in fact, even Buck, himself, had a cartoon-character, 2 dimensionality that was really disappointing. As satire, I get that the story is supposed to push the boundaries, but it swung so hard from 'are you kidding me?' depictions of New York corporate behavior to wildly unrealistic portrayals of personal relationships (Buck's devotion to Rhett after literally 1 day, and his bizarre rejection of Mr. Rawlings, to name just 2) that I lost patience with it pretty quickly. It also sounded like it was written with 'Future Screenplay' intentions firmly in mind--not good.
I did finish the book, but speeded up the narration to move it along.
Zeno Robinson does a good job narrating, which is why I gave this audiobook 3 stars.

Holmes and Moriarty match wits yet again

Sure, they plunged from the Reichenbach Falls, but surely you don’t think that would be enough to kill off such wily, indefatigable men as Sherlock Holmes & James Moriarty? The fun in this caper is, as always, trying to stick with all the twists & turns that a Holmes-Moriarty square-off is bound to include. Throw in Dr. Watson’s long-lost brother, Henry, a group of rowdy anarchists and a cagey Queen Victoria, and this tale is off to the races.
Kudos to the full cast of voice actors, all of whom played their parts with a great sense of fun and relish.

If you think you know the tale of Count Dracula from movies, TV or cereal boxes, think again. This audiobook is expertly voiced by the most sublime cast imaginable, and tells the story of the Count, the Un-Dead, and those that would thwart them with suspense and emotion. All the voice actors are terrific, but Alan Cumming (John Seward) is without question a revelation. I couldn’t get his silky, perfectly-paced narration out of my head.
Even if you are not generally a fan of ‘monster’ or ‘horror’ fiction, this classic in audiobook version is well worth a listen. I found myself wanting to listen for another 15+ hours. The performance is that good.

This play is Joan Didion and Vanessa Redgrave at the top of their games. Didion's writing is just exquisite--at turns heartbreaking, tender, funny, touching, honest, brilliant--you really feel her emotions as she grieves the back-to-back losses of her husband and only child. Redgrave is the consummate pro, and she performs this play with all the dignity, grace and intimacy it deserves. Highly recommend.

This short, 30 minute listen is classic David Sedaris. The wry, deadpan delivery, the soft, wispy voice, and Sedaris' brilliantly funny take on the world (and himself) all make for an entertaining and amusing experience. I thoroughly enjoyed this essay.

Luke Daniels has lived and experienced every parent's nightmare: the death of one's own child. 'Unspoken' chronicles select periods in Daniels' life before, after and during the brief life of his beloved son, Finnegan, who was born unhealthy and whose 21 months on this planet were consumed with innumerable medical tests, diagnoses and trips to the ER. Anyone who is a parent will relate to the anxiety of having a sick child, which can quickly turn to terror if the medical community is unable to correctly name and/or treat the illness. Daniels' fierce-yet-tender love for his child, and his desire to keep the memory of Finn's too-short life alive and meaningful, is palpable throughout this reading. His loving and heartfelt narration--you can actually hear Daniels' voice catch and swell with emotion as he reads this love letter to his son--is especially poignant.
