Historia
Every new project (or job, or hobby, or company) starts out exciting and fun. Then it gets harder and less fun, until it hits a low point: really hard, and not much fun at all. And then you find yourself asking if the goal is even worth the hassle. Maybe you're in a Dip: a temporary setback that you will overcome if you keep pushing. But maybe it's really a Cul-de-Sac, which will never get better, no matter how hard you try.

This book gave me a new perspective on the ecosystem right under my feet. Instead of looking elsewhere to preserve nature, I am now refocused on my own backyard if you will. Plus, the power of oak trees are one of a kind.

Historia
Every generation, a journalist has looked deep into the heart of the nuclear military establishment: the technologies, the safeguards, the plans, and the risks. These investigations are vital to how we understand the world we really live in—where one nuclear missile will beget one in return, and where the choreography of the world’s end requires massive decisions made on seconds’ notice with information that is only as good as the intelligence we have. Pulitzer Prize finalist Annie Jacobsen’s Nuclear War: A Scenario explores this ticking-clock scenario.

Not what you think
Revisado: 06-16-24
Wish I had read reviews on this before purchasing. 1970s hogwash. Maybe some truth? But so bizarre and new age. There’s nothing here to learn if you’re looking for better understanding the plant kingdom.

Historia
The internet of today is a far cry from its early promise of a decentralized, democratic network of innovation, connection, and freedom. In the past decade, it has fallen almost entirely under the control of a very small group of companies like Apple, Google, and Facebook. In Read Write Own, tech visionary Chris Dixon argues that the dream of an open network for fostering creativity and entrepreneurship doesn’t have to die and can, in fact, be saved with blockchain networks.

Future of the Web
Revisado: 04-27-24
Excellent review on the the past, present, and potential future of the internet. Interesting to see that in a weird way the world of Ready Player One, the corporations versus the everyman, is upon us. Blockchains offer a promising new future once a better understanding of their use and functionality is know more broadly. I’d recommend this book to anyone, even those not terribly computer or internet savvy as it is presented in a well thought out and easily understood manner. I’ve been involved in the computer and internet space since the early 90’s and I learned a great deal from this book.
