I loved this, I hope there will be more in this series. So timely to current events. The characters are great. Such a departure from the usual, where women are either honeypots or baddass assassins, with no nuance inbetween. Lindsay is a complex character, I love her.

I'm so glad they turned the BRZRKR comics into a book, this was quite a feat of imagination! I was interested in the idea of the comics, but comic books always leave me wanting MORE WORDS. Like, where's the rest of the story? I'm a bookworm at heart. So, this was great for me. Written beautifully, wow, the prose was a treat. I didn't find the story hard to understand, you just have to be patient and let it unfold. All the research and detail that went into this was really impressive.

The narration was engaging. Everyone did a good job. I wish Keanu read more, he was so great.

That said...this isn't a happy story by half. It's thought provoking and action packed, but left me with this overall feeling of melancholy that stayed with me for days.

More like classic Anita...

This book felt more like Obsidian Butterfly and the older, what I think of as "classic Anita" books. There was actual action in it. There's some weird sex too, don't get me wrong, but at least there's some vampire hunting to go along with it. It was fun to have Edward and Bernardo back. I wouldn't call Olaf fun, but he's a great bad guy for sure. Not sure why Anita hasn't done something about him yet, but maybe we get that in a future book.

Waste of a credit...

Well, this was a waste of an audible credit. The last book, Skin Trade, was a bit more like the old Anita books, which I love dearly, so I took a chance. This book is more of the same that turned me off this series, like in Narcissus in Chains and the few that followed. It's just one weird yet somehow boring sex scene after another. No mystery, no actual vampire slaying. So tiresome. Blech.

This was pretty boring up until the last hour. I might have liked it a little better if I hadn't despised the narration. Her voice is so annoying. I found myself zoning out. The story is ok. Fairly ridiculous in parts. I liked the Penny Dreadful sections up until their endings, which were totally lame.

A great story, but not the best narrator...

When it comes to listening to Amelia Peabody mysteries, Barbara Rosenblatt is definitely the way to go. This narrator, it pains me to say, really butchered the voices. Her English accent is terrible. The story, however, is classic Amelia fun!

I feel like I've been waiting my whole life for this book. It had EVERYTHING I wanted and everything I didn't even know I wanted. I loved Atl and Domingo. I hope the author will write a sequel someday, or something set in this vampire world. It was FIRE! And, the narrator just KILLED it, she was amazing!

Hard to finish...

I love most of Kinsale's books, but this one was hard to finish. The writing was beautiful and the historical detail was fascinating. I loved Folly, who was good and sweet and clever. I did NOT like Robert, not even in the very beginning. He was just an irredeemable jerk, or as the kids are calling them these days, an "alphahole", even when he wasn't "going mad". I didn't like the way he talked down to Folly. He didn't have that Loveable Rogue™ thing about him that many of her heroes do, that I admit I can eat with a spoon.

The plot of this book ranged from hot mess to raging dumpster fire. It was all over the place. And I felt so sorry for dear Nicholas Boulton with his beautiful voice, who had to narrate the most ridiculous intimate scene ever aloud. Oh my god, it was supposed to be hot but I was just HOWLING with laughter the whole time.

Don't start reading Kinsale's books here or judge her talent by this book. Read The Prince of Midnight and Lessons in French. Then if you need more, read Seize the Fire and The Dream Hunter. They're her best work, which I've all given 5 stars.

I hate to say it, but I just didn't like any of the main characters. They were so narcissistic and self-absorbed that I didn't care what happened to them. They weren't really bad people, but they certainly weren't good either. The only likeable people in the whole book were Lola, the nanny, who was the only adult who had any sense, and Dani. And the twins, I guess, but they were just toddlers. I almost liked Oscar, the poor father who is clearly depressed but no one can pull their head out of their own bum long enough to notice, until I finally found out his big secret, and he turned out to be just as ridiculous as the rest of them.

This book just dragged on and on, and the juicy things that were happening to these people should have been interesting, but it all just fell flat somehow. The writer's style is also very straightforward and expository, not much style, so there's not even that to fall back on. I guess there was interesting information here, about LA and Mexico and the Alvarado's Californio heritage. One redeeming point. I could keep ranting about how bad this book was, but it's already taken up way too much of my time. Save your credit, don't waste it on this trash fire.

A Wry & Heartwarming Coming of Age Tale

I think this little shorty is Ant Richard's best work yet! It's a wryly narrated coming of age tale through the eyes of Chris, a seventeen year old boy on the cusp of manhood, on holiday with his dad in Bilbao, Spain. I found it honest, accurate, and highly amusing! Chris, like most teenagers, is full of cheek & moodiness, and his [mis]adventures stumbling through his first solo night with some girls in Bilbao is full of blunder and learning experiences. By the end young Chris actually learns a thing or two about how to behave as a human being--and the twist even made me cry a little! Well done all around. ::standing ovation::

The actors did an excellent job bringing this tale to life! Richards, the author himself, has a voice made for narration, and Piñero and Olarte did such a great job as well!
