Not as scary as I thought

It’s good but the movie was definitely scarier and bone chilling. Gaiman’s voice acting leaves much to be desired tbh

Historia
Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

If for nothing else, read this for the octopus. It’s a good show of flawed characters and i love their growth throughout the novel. Ofc i love marcellus the most <3

Don’t think anyone else could’ve done Buck’s voice any justice than schreiber. Story was a harrowing tale of the transformation from domesticity to natural instinct and just kept me rooting for Buck all the way. Loved the plot progression and def recommend!

Historia
One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Her attention to detail, her literary background, and her performance in the 2005 feature film version of the novel provide the perfect foundation from which to convey the story of Elizabeth Bennet, her four sisters, and the inimitable Mr. Darcy.

Pike really did Austen true justice with their narration. Truly. Loved the story—found myself just dabbing during intense clapback scenes and Elizabeth’s character was a spectacle to read. Loved the narration though there were some mix-ups sometimes between Jane and Lizzie’s characters but other than that it was real good ~~

Fanatic Love Kills (literally)
Revisado: 11-10-22
Is it a pandemic book? No. It's a post-COVID post-apocalyptic pandemic book. That description is confusing but accdg to Brown's author's note, that's what they're going with. Not sure if it's Gibson or Leddy who voiced Jamie, but, uh... you didn't do a good job. There. I said it. The VA for Andrew practically saved this audiobook cuz they got the assignment. I understand Jamie had something like depression--but the VA didn't do well in going beyond that. Story-wise? Cliché. It's America. Ofc it's full of killing and guns and roadtrips (or walktrips). Plot sequence? Could've done better. Will I read any follow up to this? No.

Nola is a city full of wonders. A place of sky trolleys and dead cabs, where haints dance the night away and Wise Women help keep the order. To those from Away, Nola might seem strange. To Perilous Graves, it’s simply home. Perry knows Nola’s rhythm as intimately as his own heartbeat. So when the city’s Great Magician starts appearing in odd places and essential songs are forgotten, Perry knows trouble is afoot.

Twin Cities
Revisado: 11-10-22
Oh yeah. This is one of those novels that you need to listen to an audiobook of to really really appreciate. Because, spoilers: there are a lot of songs. Thanks to Banks for their attempt in singing and I'm sure you struggled with it (im joking). The dialect is one thing you'll have to look out for. I've never been to New Orleans. Never met anyone from there so it took me a couple of chapters (and good earphones) to understand the dialect and slang. Representation? Jennings nailed it. Worldbuilding? Jennings made TWO. Conclusion? Buy and read it and you won't regret it, baby (ha see what i did there)

Sleeping Beauty Retelling & Reversed
Revisado: 11-10-22
Here we are again in the mania of modern retelling haha. But seriously, Vedder took a nice take on this. Ofc there are some flaws, especially in characterization of Shane and Fie ('strong' in the conventional masculine way) and the obvious antagonist 🔺️I do love that Vedder stuck to some of the 'original' fairytale plot points with their spin on it. Now, the performance by Dorcus was just amazing. It was emotional and each of the three POVs were distinct that I had no problems. Overall, cliché but a good read I'd want to see more of.

HIMYM meets Social Media
Revisado: 11-10-22
I already did a very extensive review of this on Goodreads but I'll just say it again: this book is phenomenal, writing and plot-wise. Loved, loved the smooth shifts from POV to POV. It was quite refreshing. Though I think Newbern (the narrator) struggled on that. Lots of characters but Bays managed to tie them all together quite nicely into a tapestry and not a botch crochet job. Conclusion? Buy and read it!
