Historia
Most pastors and leaders are godly, wonderful people that don't abuse their sheep. They shepherd their flocks gently and patiently. But we can't ignore the growing number who do not. We need gentle shepherds now more than ever, and in Bully Pulpit, seminary president and biblical scholar Michael J. Kruger offers a unique perspective for both church leaders and church members on the problem of spiritual abuse, how to spot it, and how to handle it in the church.

Clear and Convicting, It Was
Revisado: 01-31-25
This book spoke to me as a church-goer, elder, and pastor. Quoting CS Lewis, JRR Tolkien, and Yoda made instant connections whenever they were brought up. Smart move for this Gen X reader.
I listened to this under recommendation, and not under duress or accusation. Still, it convicted me as a father.
I appreciated the clear focus on spiritual abuse, and how the author explained his intent at the outset, and reminded the listener from time to time.

Really Very Excellent
Revisado: 03-21-24
Emily takes her crunchiness seriously, but takes herself less so. That’s a healthy combo I can get behind, making it easy to listen to and effective in promoting good stewardship. Her distinct voice also makes it enjoyable, as she sounds really like a friend or neighbor, not a professional actor.

Historia
Acclaimed actress Claire Danes burnishes an epic story of heroes, gods, and monsters in a groundbreaking translation of The Odyssey, the first great adventure story in the Western literary tradition. When the wily warrior-king Odysseus sets off for home after the Trojan War, he doesn’t realize this simple undertaking will become a perilous journey of 10 years. Beset at every turn, he encounters obstacles, detours, and temptations—both supernatural and human—while his wife Penelope fends off would-be suitors desperate to take the throne.

Enjoyable rendering
Revisado: 01-30-24
The direct translation from Greek rendered an enjoyable, insightful story for English-listeners. I last read this book in High School, over 30 years ago. I don’t recall the repeated and otherwise splendid adjectives, but they were fascinating in this edition.
In addition, Ms Danes has a steady cadence throughout, which might be boring with another text, but here it is appropriate and appreciated. She doesn’t make the reading about herself. Much respect.

Historia
From the moment He arrived on the scene, Jesus posed a threat to the unjust, a threat to the oppressors, and a threat to every semblance of authority wielded by the kingdom of darkness. He invaded the world with love for the forgotten, hope for the hopeless, and freedom for the bound. His ideas were disruptive, subversive, and scandalous to the world around Him.

I had no idea what I was getting into with this book, but I enjoyed every moment of it. KB is an excellent storyteller and theologian.
Many quotable quotes and tweetable tweets here that make this an easy listen with profound truths.
Definitely will listen to this one again.

Historia
We long for a good life, a beautiful life, a kind life. But clearly that’s not the world we live in. How did we lose goodness, kindness, and beauty? And more important, how do we get them back into our lives? These are the two questions crying out in our streets, homes, churches, and from deep within our souls. Pastor and author Rich Villodas is convinced that only Jesus offers a way of being human that is both strong and tender enough to tear down the walls of hostility we experience daily.

Nothing milky here. Plenty of meat without being too academic. I enjoyed the pace, the depth, and the overall length. Great read.

Factfulness: The stress-reducing habit of carrying only opinions for which you have strong supporting facts. When asked simple questions about global trends - what percentage of the world's population live in poverty; why the world's population is increasing; how many girls finish school - we systematically get the answers wrong. In Factfulness, professor of international health and global TED phenomenon Hans Rosling, together with his two longtime collaborators, Anna and Ola, offers a radical new explanation of why this happens.

Clips and Notes

Loved this book and will listen to it again. I have already shared it because I want/need to talk about it with others. Also, there has not been a previous audio book where I’ve wanted to use the clip and notes function so often.
