Historia
Titus Crown is the first Black sheriff in the history of Charon County, Virginia. In recent decades, quiet Charon has had only two murders. But after years of working as an FBI agent, Titus knows better than anyone that while his hometown might seem like a land of moonshine, cornbread, and honeysuckle, secrets always fester under the surface. Then a year to the day after Titus’s election, a school teacher is killed by a former student and the student is fatally shot by Titus’s deputies. As Titus investigates the shootings, he unearths terrible crimes.

Great Thriller
Revisado: 08-30-24
Artfully executed plot, varying degrees of misdirections, a good cast of characters.
A bit more clarity of the different characters is the only aspect of this performance I mildly struggled with. That said, it wouldn’t stop me from driving into more of Cosby’s writing.

Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

I really like John Hart’s writing style and the characters in his stories. This particular book may push the boundaries of perceived reality and yet, keeps you enthralled to the end.

John Connolly takes battered ex-cop Charlie Parker on his third outing after Every Dead Thing and Dark Hollow. Still struggling with the horrific ghosts of his past, Parker is now a disillusioned private eye hired to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of Grace Peltier - which neither her father nor a former US senator believes was suicide. The trail leads to a mass grave in Northern Maine where a Baptist community disappeared 40 years earlier.

Historia
With the same emotional generosity and effortlessly compelling storytelling that made All Over But the Shoutin’ a beloved bestseller, Rick Bragg continues his personal history of the Deep South. This time he’s writing about his grandfather Charlie Bundrum, a man who died before Bragg was born but left an indelible imprint on the people who loved him. Drawing on their memories, Bragg reconstructs the life of an unlettered roofer who kept food on his family’s table through the worst of the Great Depression

Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: When it comes to author/narrator pairings, nobody tops James Lee Burke and Will Patton in the Robicheaux thrillers. Beloved Burke hero Detective Dave Robicheaux here returns to New Iberia to solve a series of grisly murders. Seven young women in neighboring Jefferson Davis Parish have been brutally murdered. While the crimes have all the telltale signs of a serial killer, the death of Bernadette Latiolais, a high-school honor student, doesn’t fit.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Glass Rainbow to be better than the print version?
Did not read the print version but Will Patton does such a great job with each of the characters, especially Clete.
What did you like best about this story?
Definitely the suspense.
What does Will Patton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Everything! Will Patton truly captures the cadence and delivers on inflection.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I love to listen to Clete's ramps.

Historia
A music therapist who thrives on helping others, Kendra Michaels cherishes the ordinary life she has achieved after stem cell surgery restored her sight. The skills she perfected during those sightless years - the ability to pick up the most subtle audio, olfactory, and tactile cues in the world around her - coupled with her laser-sharp mind - have made her a uniquely potent observer and problem solver. Kendra’s uncanny way of connecting the dots is as baffling to law enforcement as it is legendary.

Not Good, sorry!
Revisado: 08-11-12
What disappointed you about Close Your Eyes?
Rather amateurish, both in writing and in narrator's performance. The story plot was interesting however, the dialogue of the characters lacks dept and maturity. The narration did not help the lack of maturity.
Would you ever listen to anything by Iris Johansen and Roy Johansen again?
Sorry, not unless it makes the best seller's list.
What didn’t you like about Elisabeth Rodgers’s performance?
Immature inflection.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Sorry, not really!

While I didn't truly appreciate the disjointed and perhaps a bit too tragic story I won't stop reading Anne Rivers Siddons because she really is an excellent writer and author.
