Historia
Two astronomers have detected a strange, pulsing signal from deep space. Within hours, the US government goes into lockdown, restricting airspace and scrubbing scientific data. Was the signal an intercepted communication revealing alarming plans for an enemy’s military strike? Or has humanity at long last found proof of extraterrestrial life?

Buildup didn’t really carry through to the story. When it was done, I was still expecting more.

The story seems believable
Revisado: 01-24-25
Quite a good story. If there is one thing I found disconcerting, it was the narrator’s mispronunciation of “helo,” military slang for a helicopter. When I was in the military, it was always pronounced as, “hee-lo,” while the otherwise great narrator always said, “hello.” The book is terrific, and I just bought another.

Historia
Cloaked by the mists of dawn, Task Force 61 - carrying tanks, aircraft, and over 5000 Marines - steams toward Syria with deadly intent. Their mission: rescue 100 hostages from a terrorist stronghold - alive. With realism seldom seen in military fiction, The Med is a magnificent and timely epic that brings the human drama of armed conflict compellingly to life.

Disappointing
Revisado: 11-29-23
You have to suspend belief to listen to this story.
While there are some interesting characters and exciting parts, to get to them, you have to slog through some very boring backstories.
The Commodore was over the top. I doubt he would have been given the command of anything, much less an amphibious task force.
Spoiler alert; the main character b*** s****s his way onto a Navy helo to fly to Syria to rescue his wife and daughter, deserting his ship in wartime, arriving unarmed, and kills the PLO terrorist leader with a piece of rebar. If I hadn’t been driving, I’d have hit stop.
Save your money.

Historia
Commanding a combined US-South Korea force, the newly promoted US Navy hero Dan Lenson wonders if his embattled group can possibly keep sea lanes open in the Central Pacific as he tries to turn the tide and buy time for the Allies to regroup. But when his own flagship comes under ferocious attack, he must leave it to assume command elsewhere - without knowing when he'll be able to return. In the meantime, SEAL operator Teddy Oberg, escaping from a hellish POW camp, heads west through desolate mountains toward what he hopes will be freedom.

Episodic; multiple subplots
Revisado: 08-04-23
I didn’t realize I had to buy more books after this one to hear the story. This one ended abruptly. Cliff hanger.
A decent story, but the subplots were distracting. There are the special forces in captivity and their adventures; the wife back home and her high-flying career… I wouldn’t miss them.
The narrator did a decent job but mispronounced some terms—unnoticed by the narrator, editor, proofreader (proof listener?), and the author. Samples: “boatswain” is so spelled, but it isn’t pronounced as such. The correct pronunciation is “bos’n,” bowline is pronounced “bow-lin,” corpsman is “cor-man,” not “corsman.” The author describes a “double loop” as “pi.” Pi’s symbol looks like a square-cornered “n.” The author is thinking of the infinity symbol: an 8 on its side. And so it goes.

Historia
At the height of the air war in Europe, Captain Joe Farley and the baseball-loving, wisecracking crew of the B-17 Flying Fortress Fata Morgana are in the middle of a harrowing bombing mission over eastern Germany when everything goes sideways. The bombs are still falling and flak is still exploding all around the 20-ton bomber as it is knocked like a bathtub duck into another world.

A decent story but some things lacking
Revisado: 09-14-20
I liked it, but can't say I loved it. Things were sometimes distracting: the narrator pronounced Bakelite as "bake light," rather than "Bake a light."
The author wrote about "compressed water." Water cannot be compressed.
