Historia
At the age of thirty-six, on the verge of completing a decade’s worth of training as a neurosurgeon, Paul Kalanithi was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. One day he was a doctor treating the dying, and the next he was a patient struggling to live. And just like that, the future he and his wife had imagined evaporated.

Thought provoking
Revisado: 08-24-20
This book really makes one think of the value of the time that we’ve been given. Reminds us to use our days and time wisely. To cherish those we love.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book as well as the narration. One could totally follow the book even with all the medical terms. Very well written.

Historia
Kristine Barnett’s son Jacob has an IQ higher than Einstein’s, a photographic memory, and he taught himself calculus in two weeks. At 9 he started working on an original theory in astrophysics that experts believe may someday put him in line for a Nobel Prize, and at age 12 he became a paid researcher in quantum physics. But the story of Kristine’s journey with Jake is all the more remarkable because his extraordinary mind was almost lost to autism. At age 2, when Jake was diagnosed, Kristine was told he might never be able to tie his own shoes.

An extremely encouraging book
Revisado: 05-31-18
This book is extremely encouraging to any parent that is struggling with a child that does not fit into the “norm”. So often we try to steer children away from something they love, but we see as a waste of time or useless. However, if we take the authors advice, we need to build on the child’s interests, to find some way to relate his or her interests to the world. I love how Kristine gets to work immediately to change things when she sees there is a need and there might be some way she can help her son. She doesn’t wait for a therapist or professional, but decides to do whatever she can to make life better for her child and others as well. This is a truly inspirational book and I highly recommend it.

Historia
Like countless other parents, doctors Gordon Neufeld and Gabor Maté have had to confront their children becoming secretive and unreachable. Focused more and more on their friends, they recoiled or grew hostile around adults. Why? The problem, Neufeld suggests, lies in attachment: Children are increasingly forming stronger attachments to their friends than to the adults in their lives. Dr. Neufeld has dubbed this phenomenon "peer orientation", which refers to the tendency of children and youth to look to their peers for direction.

Very relevant in today’s world!
Revisado: 11-02-17
This book is a wonderful resource in today’s world where peers seem to outweigh parents in nearly everything. Many of us parents run ourselves ragged with after school activities to give our children every opportunity to succeed. Perhaps we need to focus more on family activities and building good relationships within the family. The evidence is pretty strong!
The book is well written and backed up by evidence. It includes many examples and stories that help in understanding what the author is trying to convey.

He also gives never-before-revealed details on their life together and what he calls “the long goodbye,” the blessing of being able to know that life is going to end and taking advantage of it.

Awesome!
Revisado: 04-07-17
I loved this book! I loved its honesty and truthfulness. I loved the story. Mostly I loved that it reminded me to treasure those people who are a part of my life. To not hold grudges. To know the goodness in people. To realize that life is short. To treasure each day with my husband and children. To know that God is good.

Good advice
Revisado: 06-13-16
This book is full of great and practical advice. So often we think we are doing our kids a favour by giving in to certain things, when in reality we are making the wrong decision. I wish I had read this book ten years ago; however, I can still use many of these principles now in my pre-teen.
Great book that opened my eyes to so many things! Thank-you Dr. Dobson!
