When Nigel Baxter, a middle-aged married banker with an unremarkable past, is found dead in the bath of a plush hotel suite, his wrists slit, it looks as if he's taken his own life. At first. But when Detective Inspector Daniel Riley is assigned to the case, he soon realises all isn't as it first appears to be. When a postmortem shows Baxter was poisoned, Riley suspects foul play. And then there's the odd addition of a teddy bear left at the crime scene....

Well worth the read
Revisado: 02-09-23
If you liked Gone Girl and Girl on the Train, you will enjoy this. By the end, I even sympathized with the perp which I should have abhored. Good character development, showing us the attributes and the flaws in all. Some sexual descriptions may offend the very sensitive, but not most. Love, grief, revenge, gory hatred, regret, hope, it's all in here.

Previously known as the Murdaugh Murders Podcast, True Sunlight is the intersection of True Crime, journalism and systematic corruption. Celebrated journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell are taking their style of reporting beyond Alex Murdaugh and his co-conspirators. We expose the truth wherever it leads giving voice to victims like Mica Francis, Sara Lynn Colucci, and Christa Gilley, while still pursuing justice for all the victims you've met so far like Stephen Smith, Dallas Stoller, and others. True Sunlight is the antithesis of True crime. True Sunlight values accuracy over "...

I am from Pac NW and don't know the Southern ways of controlling and dispensing power. I thank you for filling in all the gaps in the story with important little details you glean from locals. Alex was angry with Paul because he was such a spoiled brat who looked to amount to nothing but a drunk bully and an embarrassment. Certainly not a silver-tongued lawyer, the only career worth a damn in that family.

Heaps of profanity and violence.

Quirky story I quit for several days 2/3 through. I guess I needed a break. Curiosity won out and I finished. Most of the characters are not likeable, but ending is perfect.

Working for a private intelligence company, he will provide the CIA, and more important, the President, with absolute deniability.

Plot more difficult to follow than his other books

Very long explanations about the differences in Muslim factions and various Middle Eastern complexities. Also, many of the foreign names sounded similar. Without much attempt from the narrator at Russian or Middle Eastern accents, I had to rewind several times to identify the speaker.

There are three narrators, making it easier to tell characters apart. Consistent use of European accents also helps. After one cruise I knew they were dangerous - I am even more convinced after this book.

So believable, it could be a Dateline episode. Extremely well researched and presented story of a crime victim and a war veteran. Both suffer rejection from the world in general. Both have external and internal scars impacting their daily lives. This book will hold your interest from the very beginning. Narrator did a fantastic job.

Narrator's attempt to portray female voices is absent. Some male narrators do a pretty good job, this one doesn't even try. I am pleased that Harvath has a solid partner in Tracy. Makes the character more complex to have a personal life.

This speaker has a pace NJthat says "I want to get through this as fast as possible." She talks like a New York cab driver, irritated and nasally. Did not relax me at all. Try Buddify, it is low cost and very soothing.
