Good primer
Revisado: 09-16-21
A good list of things to consider and start working toward. As part of a business that is still under the original owner with a plan to become a “family business” a lot of it wasn’t really geared toward my situation as much as toward large family run corporations. Would have liked to go into detail on specially what corporate and legal structures to consider rather than just broad business types (partnership/distributed/etc.) and more on how to originally bring family in for the first time rather than just “think about taxes”.
Overall it was a good list of things to consider

Historia
From the celebrated neurobiologist and primatologist, a landmark, genre-defining examination of human behavior, both good and bad, and an answer to the question: Why do we do the things we do? Sapolsky's storytelling concept is delightful but it also has a powerful intrinsic logic: He starts by looking at the factors that bear on a person's reaction in the precise moment a behavior occurs, and then hops back in time from there, in stages, ultimately ending up at the deep history of our species and its evolutionary legacy.

Fantastic
Revisado: 08-26-19
Great narrator. Great summary of everything we know of about why we do what we do. Neuroscience, endocrinology, pyschology, sociology, etc. Tons of studies referenced. Tons of dissecting competing scientific theory. It's long and some parts can get a little sense but wonderful overall. And for good measure, at the end, he destroys the notion of free will. So that's fun :)

A “Read once a year forever” kind of book
Revisado: 07-19-18
Part one is an entertaining biography with a great style of focusing on his biggest mistakes and the lessons he learned from them. Part two is just a breakdown of how to approach reality to get accurate information. It feels like everyone needs this in today’s environment. Part 3 is how to use the part 2 principles business practices.

Historia
Barack Obama's keynote speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention instantly catapulted the little-known state senator from Illinois into the national spotlight. Three months later Obama would win election to the US Senate; four years later he would make history as America's first black president. Now, at the end of his second presidential term, David J. Garrow delivers the most compelling and comprehensive biography ever written of Obama in the years preceding his presidency.

The Encyclopedia of Barack Obama
Revisado: 11-26-17
As you may have assumed from the page count, there is a lot of information here. It sometimes reads more like an encyclopedia than a narrative. “Here is an event that happened, here are the 6 people that were involved, here is what each of them ate, here is what each of them commented on that event, etc.”
I give the author credit for the exhaustive research. Typically, the author only chimes in in his own voice with a subtle jab at Obama over a misstatement or something. The number of different accounts of Obama seem to (by law of averages) create an even handed representation of Barack. Only the last chapter (his presidency) gets a unanimously critical account.
This is the first Obama bio I have read. I assume there are better narratives and unique perspectives out there but it would be hard to beat the amount of information contained in this book. Overall I recommend it.

Great Book, Great performance
Revisado: 01-20-17
1) I think anyone in any type of management position (present or future) needs to read this. It should be required for leaders to understand this mindset.
2) their voices are insanely badass. But in all seriousness they do an amazing job.
3) I often struggle with whether to read the physical or audio version of a book I'm interested in.
This one is perfect for audio

Historia
Our Political Nature is the first book to reveal the hidden roots of our most deeply held moral values. It shows how political orientations across space and time arise from three clusters of measurable personality traits. These clusters entail opposing attitudes toward tribalism, inequality, and differing perceptions of human nature. Together, these traits are by far the most powerful cause of left-right voting, even leading people to regularly vote against their economic interests.

Revisado: 08-10-16
Wonderfully researched. Incredibly informative. Given the current political climate in the US and over much of the world, everyone needs to read this book to understand the basic differences that make some conservative and some liberal rather than just yelling at each other. Pure science. I listened for political bias and I couldn't find any.
