Historia
Narrated by Emmy Award–winning actor Martin Sheen, The Home Front: Life in America During World War II takes listeners into the lives of Americans at home—part of the Greatest Generation—who supported the war effort and sustained the country during wartime. The war brought immediate, life-changing shifts: the rationing of meat, dairy products, and sugar; an explosion of war-related jobs; and, despite mixed signals, a greater role for women working outside the home.

an unexpected pleasure.
Revisado: 02-03-20
Martin Sheen narrates an intriguing mix of first person accounts of various aspects of the WW II homefront. I thought it would be fluff but I was definitely wrong.

Historia
Say the name 'Enron' and most people believe they've heard all about the story that imperiled a presidency, destroyed a marketplace, and changed Washington and Wall Street forever. But in the hands of Kurt Eichenwald, the players we think we know and the business practices we think have been exposed are transformed into entirely new, and entirely gripping, material.

Similar to a Barak bio
Revisado: 02-08-19
I loved it mostly but at times the author became a bit sappy. I suppose that's forgivable. She seems to carry around a martyr's cross. She achieved in school and then had to survive the rigors of an over achievers high school. She and Barak struggled to survive as another for profit manager and a college professor and author.
I still enjoyed the book. It was well read and gave me context to that time of American history.

Historia
An astonishing retelling of 20th-century history from the Ottoman perspective, delivering profound new insights into World War I and the contemporary Middle East. Between 1911 and 1922, a series of wars would engulf the Ottoman Empire and its successor states, in which the central conflict, of course, was World War I - a story we think we know well. As Sean McMeekin shows us in this revelatory new history of what he calls the "wars of the Ottoman succession", we know far less than we think.

A very difficult story to follow.
Revisado: 01-14-16
A struggle to follow the story till the start of the 20th century. It talks of places that no longer exist and never offers any background.

A bit in depth for an audiobook
Revisado: 09-25-12
Would you try another book from James Wilson and/or Nelson Runger?
probably wouldn't purchase another audiobook by them but probably would buy an ebook on the right topic. They are so in depth that I really needed to go back and reread parts and thats not a favorable option on an audiobook.
What did you like best about this story?
It went beyond the cowboys and indians story. It discusses why the story is important and what are the results of 4 centuries of indian abuses.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
Mispronounced words. It was as if the reader had no access to any experts on the topic.
Did The Earth Shall Weep inspire you to do anything?
No

Historia
This story is told in the words of a tragic figure in American history - a hook-nosed, hollow-cheeked old Sauk warrior who lived under four flags while the Mississippi Valley was being wrested from his people. The author is Black Hawk himself - once pursued by an army whose members included Captain Abraham Lincoln and Lieutenant Jefferson Davis. Perhaps no Indian ever saw so much of American expansion or fought harder to prevent that expansion from driving his people to exile and death.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
If you are looking for a riveting read to cuddle up with, don't pick this up! That being said it is what it is. This is the self told story of one of the 19th century's great characters. In this book is a version of the unfolding drama of native americans in the midwest that was the driving force for one of the great players in that drama.
Blackhawk is not looking to entertain you. At times he seems to tell the same story over and over again. If you are interested in the perspective of those who lived the drama over the telling of the same story by someone with an agenda to push, listen to this story.
