Historia
Left penniless by the death of his father, nineteen-year-old Nicholas Nickleby seeks help, along with his mother and sister, from Uncle Ralph Nickleby. The hard-hearted money lender takes an instant dislike to his nephew and gets rid of the boy by securing him a teaching position at Dotheboys Hall, where the evil Wackford Squeers presides. Horrified by the barbarity he sees there, Nicholas defies Squeers and is forced to flee.

Fabulous!
Revisado: 08-08-21
I can’t praise the cast enough. What excellent choice of voices. I often use spoken books to fall asleep to, but for this performance I wanted to hear every word. I went for walks and listened to the fabulous story rood by these great actors. And of course this tragic-comedy is a classic. At times laugh out loud and others fearing it’s all going to go wrong for the
characters you come to love.

A great story with a superb narrator
Revisado: 05-19-21
Robert Glenister does an amazing job in narrating this great story. The amount of accents, male and female, seemed endless. It was a joy to listen to the book. I’ll look for more books narrated by Robert now.

Historia
The prolific drummer for the rock band Rush travels through African villages, both large and small, and relates his story through journal entries and tales of adventure, while simultaneously addressing issues such as differences in culture, psychology, and labels. Literary and artistic sidekicks such as Aristotle, Dante, and Van Gogh join Peart and his cycling companions, reminding the listener that this is not just another travel book - it is a story of both external and introspective discovery and adventure.

Informative and immersive
Revisado: 07-06-20
I’ve listened to this audible version of the book twice now. The narrator is engaging v and the the bike adventure gives a beautiful insight into Cameroon in the 80’s. Of course the political landscape has changed, but the experiences at the different villages and towns, and the conversations Neil had with the Cameroonians, interspersed with some historic background really give a good insight into Cameroon. On top of all of this I am a keen cyclist and could therefore really appreciate the challenges and beauty of cycling long distances.

Wow wow wow
Revisado: 03-23-19
This book should be compulsory reading for everyone, but especially white people (like me). Having a white man experience what it’s like to be a black man really brings home white privilege. Yes it’s written a few decades ago, but the experience is still relevant today.

Gripping story, accents not quite there
Revisado: 12-04-18
Really enjoyed this adventurous account, some suspenseful chapters kept me up much later than intended. Why anyone would risk their life there is beyond me, but hearing about it in this audible version was a great way to appreciate the dangers and challenges.
The English and South African accents were laugh out funny sometimes; not always consistent and the English accent sounded like what you’d hear in old BBC recordings. Nevertheless, an amazing adventure to listen to.
