Historia
Set in the London of the 1660s and of the early 21st century, The Weight of Ink is the interwoven tale of two women of remarkable intellect: Ester Velasquez, an emigrant from Amsterdam who is permitted to scribe for a blind rabbi, just before the plague hits the city, and Helen Watt, an ailing historian with a love of Jewish history. As the novel opens, Helen has been summoned by a former student to view a cache of 17th-century Jewish documents newly discovered in his home during a renovation.

I was deeply moved by this historical novel so beautifully written. Two women from different centuries with integrity and brilliant mind connected by history. A great read.

This book is terrible. The author suggests that eating whatever you feel like eating and as much as you feel like leads to great health. He completely ignores issues of addiction and other dynamics that interfere with this idealized version of “body knows best”. Some useful information wrapped in erroneous conclusions.

Historia
The Remains of the Day is a profoundly compelling portrait of the perfect English butler and of his fading, insular world in postwar England. At the end of his three decades of service at Darlington Hall, Stevens embarks on a country drive, during which he looks back over his career to reassure himself that he has served humanity by serving "a great gentleman". But lurking in his memory are doubts about the true nature of Lord Darlington's "greatness" and graver doubts about his own faith in the man he served.

A deeply incisive dive into the mind of “the Butler” and the world of the nobility.
Revisado: 11-13-17
The enjoyment of this book for me lies in the author’s profound insights into what constitutes a noble and loyal servant of the rich. Implications for all of us on living a life in service to other’s goals at the expense of our own.

Historia
Based on true events, Elizabeth Street is a multigenerational saga that opens in an Italian village in the 1900s, and crosses the ocean to New York's Lower East Side. At the heart of the novel is Giovanna, whose family is targeted by the notorious Black Hand - the precursor to the Mafia. Elizabeth Street brings to light a period in history when Italian immigrant neighborhoods lived in fear of Black Hand extortion and violence - a reality that defies the romanticized depiction of the Mafia.

Good Story!
Revisado: 10-10-17
For students of Italian-American history, this is a must read. Takes you right from the Italian village across the ocean to NYC. Story kept me interested.
Unfortunately, the performer 's knowledge of the language is lacking and she mispronounced many words, including the main characters name! Somewhat annoying, however the pace of the story kept me listening.

Historia
In 1665, a young man from Martha's Vineyard became the first Native American to graduate from Harvard College. Upon this slender factual scaffold, Brooks has created a luminous tale of love and faith, magic and adventure. The narrator of Caleb's Crossing is Bethia Mayfield, growing up in the tiny settlement of Great Harbor amid a small band of pioneers and Puritans. Restless and curious, she yearns after an education that is closed to her by her sex....

Superb historical novel
Revisado: 10-18-16
This story, masterfully crafted, tells a story about a time in history which is misunderstood. Told through the experience of a young woman in early colonial times and her friendship with a young native of Martha's Vineyard, it offers a fascinating perspective of the relationship between the two cultures. Descriptions about daily life are painted in such artful detail one can feel immersed in the time and place.
