Kingsolver is my favorite author and I like to hear her narration but this was still excellent. I love how much I learn while engrossed in a fictional story - that goes for most of her books, but this one especially.
The story is impactful and the history lessons that affect our current US political issues are invaluable.

Definitely recommend the audio version. Beautifully & seemingly genuinely read by the author. You can never know the “real truth” of anyone’s family but I kept coming back to the word… genuine. The story feels so very genuine.

For some reason, I’ve had this in my library for probably a couple of years but never read/listened to it. BK’s writing is beautiful & I love her narration. (If you’re looking for a full novel, check out Prodigal Summer - my favorite.) I think of myself as not preferring to listen to essays, but I was reminded that some of these stories are perfect. Thought provoking & thoughtfully impactful language. Don’t hesitate!

Engrossing despite being a bit disjointed.

Really enjoyed the book & Michael Beck is a favorite narrator. The PI & Bataan Death March section was riveting. Ultimately it felt like a cheap wrap up & I wish there had been more story around the characters related to "the big secret" learned at the end. Still, very enjoyable, albeit a bit dark.
