Historia
In the peace and tranquility of the woods at Pinehills on a Saturday afternoon, a mobile phone begins to ring. The phone belongs to DC Smith, and it isn't unusual that the call is from Kings Lake Central police station; what is unusual is the fact that he seems to be the subject of an investigation rather than taking part in one. What can the links be between a prisoner's violent death in another county, the disappearance of two teenagers, and the highest profile case in Kings Lake for many years?

I love the character development, the plot lines, as well as the reading.

I am sorry, as much as I love the descriptive writing and character development, I am having an issue coming up with over fifteen words to describe all that I enjoyed.

His miseries multiply when clouds of midges, the diabolical Scottish mosquito, descend on the town. All My Knotted-Up Life is a beautifully crafted portrait of resilience and survival, a poignant reminder of God’s enduring faithfulness, and proof positive that if we ever truly took the time to hear people’s full stories . . . we’d all walk around slack-jawed.

Only Wish There Were More Stars to Give
Revisado: 09-06-23
Like the Bible characters whose own lives and experiences become our own, so Beth’s story intersects, weaves in and out of our own, and teaches us the great love of God in the process!
I am so thankful for her authenticity and willingness to vulnerably open up what could have been hidden and buried. Rather, Beth took the talents allotted to her and invested them in the work of the kingdom of heaven.
Her memoir is deep, descriptive, endearing, entertaining, and so enriching. I leave it’s pages feeling that I am no longer alone.

Historia
In this gripping narrative, Ben Macintyre tackles one of the most famous prison stories in history and makes it utterly his own. During World War II, the German army used the towering Colditz Castle to hold the most defiant Allied prisoners. For four years, these prisoners of the castle tested its walls and its guards with ingenious escape attempts that would become legend. But as Macintyre shows, the story of Colditz was about much more than escape.

Fascinating
Revisado: 01-28-23
Prisoners of the Castle is comedy, drama, suspense, and mystery combining in the story of Colditz Castle during WWII. I found myself cheering every innovation, escape attempt, and recrimination performed by the brave and stalwart POW’s held prisoner in that fortress!

Historia
In April 1944, Rudolf Vrba became one of the very first Jews to escape from Auschwitz and make his way to freedom—among only a tiny handful who ever pulled off that near-impossible feat. He did it to reveal the truth of the death camp to the world—and to warn the last Jews of Europe what fate awaited them. Against all odds, Vrba and his fellow escapee, Fred Wetzler, climbed mountains, crossed rivers, and narrowly missed German bullets until they had smuggled out the first full account of Auschwitz the world had ever seen.

Tragic, Truthful, and Tremendous
Revisado: 01-13-23
This book is hard to listen to in that the atrocities perpetrated are wrenching! However, it is necessary, I believe to hear, take to heart, lest those same atrocities are ever allowed to happen again.
Excellent and heartfelt reading!

Historia
Retired publisher Susan Ryeland is living the good life. She is running a small hotel on a Greek island with her long-term boyfriend Andreas. It should be everything she's always wanted. But is it? She's exhausted with the responsibilities of making everything work on an island where nothing ever does, and truth be told, she's beginning to miss London. And then the Trehearnes come to stay. The strange story they tell about an unfortunate murder that took place on the same day and in the same hotel in which their daughter was married fascinates Susan and piques her editor's instincts.

Pete Banning was Clanton's favorite son, a returning war hero, the patriarch of a prominent family, a farmer, a father, a neighbor, and a faithful member of the Methodist church. Then one cool October morning in 1946, he rose early, drove into town, walked into the church, and calmly shot and killed the Reverend Dexter Bell.

Historia
In 1957, Melba Beals was one of the nine African American students chosen to integrate Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. But her story of overcoming didn't start - or end - there. While her white schoolmates were planning their senior prom, Melba was facing the business end of a double-barreled shotgun, being threatened with lynching by rope-carrying tormentors, and learning how to outrun white supremacists who were ready to kill her rather than sit beside her in a classroom. Only her faith in God sustained her.

Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

Brilliant!!!!
Revisado: 11-24-21
The writing is superb - each word a stroke of paint upon a canvas, not just telling a story, but portraying a narrative in colors so vivid that each page is seen. I not only loved this story but felt my own story being told. I had my own Sean, whose violence was denied and rewritten again and again by father and mother’s family narrative. I had no great mountain or lofty peaks, but a vast ocean in which secrets were buried and never allowed to surface. For my own health, I too had to except severed ties and lost siblings.
