Historia
1828. Robin Swift, orphaned by cholera in Canton, is brought to London by the mysterious Professor Lovell. There, he trains for years in Latin, Ancient Greek, and Chinese, all in preparation for the day he’ll enroll in Oxford University’s prestigious Royal Institute of Translation—also known as Babel. Babel is the world's center for translation and, more importantly, magic. Silver working—the art of manifesting the meaning lost in translation using enchanted silver bars—has made the British unparalleled in power, as its knowledge serves the Empire’s quest for colonization.

Brilliant!!

I really enjoyed this novel, the narration was intense and the story really resonates with me being part of an Imperialist country as it was Portugal.

It was hard at the beginning as I am not used to the style, but I ended up really enjoying the environment and concept created. Great voices and sound effects, and story idea ;)

He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Amazing and entertaining story
Revisado: 01-21-22
One of the best science fiction books I have ever read. It’s not a deep moral story, it is an apocalyptic event and a way to solve it as a true community we are. Loved every second of it!

Great overview of brands history
Revisado: 01-05-20
I was expecting more about content creation or decisions but the book is on a higher level.
When I assumed it would be different I started to enjoy looking at so many examples and understand the content gap narrative.
It all makes sense and I would definitely recommend this book

Best Sci Fi Ever
Revisado: 10-23-19
I really enjoyed this masterpiece! The deep reflections following a curious enough storytelling were mind blowing.
I will not reveal the story itself, but for me it was all about life purpose, and how small we are.
I will now read all Clarke’s books until the last word!

Inspiring Socratic Dialogues Introduction
Revisado: 08-23-19
Professor Sugrue is the real teacher, when you are so passionate about a subject learning becomes a pleasure and not a challenge.
He brings on many interesting perspectives and comparisons, the most striking ones with Hercules (from Homer) and Jesus Christ.
Socrates never wrote anything so this are potential tales created by Plato to use Socrates as a myth, almost a god like figure. Again something in common with Buddha, Confucios and Jesus!
Highly highly recommended if you are interested in Ancient Greek Philosophy!

Historia
Fukuyama examines the effects of corruption on governance, and why some societies have been successful at rooting it out. He explores the different legacies of colonialism in Latin America, Africa, and Asia, and offers a clear-eyed account of why some regions have thrived and developed more quickly than others. And he boldly reckons with the future of democracy in the face of a rising global middle class and entrenched political paralysis in the West.

History of our society in a nutshell
Revisado: 07-28-15
I'm amazed how so much in our lives and history is related to Politics. In this book we can understand the whys for so many things I can't even start to enumerate. Well structured and clear examples make this book a must read for anyone interested in the evolution of our society. This book should be read after the first one as there are many references .
