Cruelty and greed painstakingly explained
Revisado: 01-29-25
Jordan takes us on the 10 yr journey that still leaves victims of this crime by a US government against it's people without justice. He lays out the facts allowing you to make your own judgements but also making it quite clear where the issues originate and how the miscarriage of justice continues to victimize the citizens of Flint to this very day. Must read. It could happen to any of us and we must work to right this wrong for these victims.

Historia
In Drug Use for Grown-Ups, he draws on decades of research and his own personal experience to argue definitively that the criminalization and demonization of drug use - not drugs themselves - have been a tremendous scourge on America, not least in reinforcing this country's enduring structural racism. Dr. Hart did not always have this view. He came of age in one of Miami's most troubled neighborhoods at a time when many ills were being laid at the door of crack cocaine. His initial work as a researcher was aimed at proving that drug use caused bad outcomes.

The truth shall set you free, America. Open your eyes and minds to these ideals referenced within if we really hope to deal more kindly with each other. A world wide problem that America has lead the way in the wrong direction for too long.

Historia
In this pathbreaking work, now with a new introduction, Edward S. Herman and Noam Chomsky show that, contrary to the usual image of the news media as cantankerous, obstinate, and ubiquitous in their search for truth and defense of justice, in their actual practice they defend the economic, social, and political agendas of the privileged groups that dominate domestic society, the state, and the global order.

Dry but thorough accounting of media
Revisado: 11-06-22
Very affirming account of what brings us to our media environment today by looking into the recent past with case studies and evidence presented in great detail. Very dry presentation but unsure if it could or should be done any other way. I watched the BBC documentary Century of Self before this. A great primer or supplement to this book.

Historia
In The Righteous Mind, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt explores the origins of our divisions and points the way forward to mutual understanding. His starting point is moral intuition - the nearly instantaneous perceptions we all have about other people and the things they do. These intuitions feel like self-evident truths, making us righteously certain that those who see things differently are wrong. Haidt shows us how these intuitions differ across cultures, including the cultures of the political left and right.

Helped my reasoning biased brain
Revisado: 10-11-19
Really enjoyed this. It helped my robot brain realise that people are different not because they are stupid or wrong but because they have different moral foundations and biases that give them different motivations. Very well thought out and supports each of its claims with evidence suggested from studies performed mostly by the author but does reference others.

Historia
The Somme: these words conjure the image of war rigidly fought by traditional means even when catastrophe clearly loomed. Relying on personal testimonies never before published, this study of those who survived the first day of battle (July 1, 1916) captures this epic conflagration from all angles. Follow the action as soldiers crawl across No Man’s Land in the face of German guns, struggle with the conditions in the trenches, and survey the scene from the air as the RFC tries to control the skies above the battlefield.

Historia
In 1528, a mission set out from Spain to colonize Florida. But the expedition went horribly wrong: Delayed by a hurricane, knocked off course by a colossal error of navigation, and ultimately doomed by a disastrous decision to separate the men from their ships, the mission quickly became a desperate journey of survival. Of the 300 men who had embarked on the journey, only four survived - three Spaniards and an African slave.
